I believe that is referring to anchor babies.

If this was true, why would the illegal aliens be uneligible for instate tuition at universities, colleges, etc...?

Remember, wikipedia is very unreliable as a resource.

“and by making them legal, I don’t mean amnesty and neither does Huckabee. He wants them to go back to the back of the line and then come in legally.”

Maybe you can explain what “going to the back of the line means.” The back of what line? If they go to the back of the legal immigration line, 90% or more of the illegals in the US would never be readmitted, well, unless you plan to increase legal immigration by four or five fold (which is what “comprehensive reform” did in so many words).

We presently let in 1 - 1.5 million legally each year, depending on the number of refugees and other special categories allowed. But, the allotment for Mexico is only a fraction of that annual total, probably one or two hundred thousand per year. If the millions of Mexican illegal aliens go to the back of the line, they’ll never get back in because each nation has a limited allotment each year, and plenty of citizens who’re try to do it legally already in “the line”. The same would go for many nations with illegals in the US.

So, what does “going to the back of the line” mean?

Apparently you did not read it anyway. Here is another source:

http://www.oyez.org/cases/1980-1989/1981/1981_80_1538/

Facts of the Case

A revision to the Texas education laws in 1975 allowed the state to withhold from local school districts state funds for educating children of illegal aliens. This case was decided together with Texas v. Certain Named and Unnamed Alien Child.

Question

Did the law violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment?

Conclusion

Yes. The Court reasoned that illegal aliens and their children, though not citizens of the United States or Texas, are people “in any ordinary sense of the term” and, therefore, are afforded Fourteenth Amendment protections. Since the state law severely disadvantaged the children of illegal aliens, by denying them the right to an education, and because Texas could not prove that the regulation was needed to serve a “compelling state interest,” the Court struck down the law.

********
Sad, but true.

BTW, if a student showed up at school with undocumented parents, isn’t it within a governor’s perview & his obligation to begin the deportation process?

I am not even going to go into the whole Mexican Consulate issue, but Huckabee used federal and state $$$ to build the Consulate in Little Rock and then charged $1.00 in rent per year after. Nevermind, that thanks to Huckabee, Arkansas has the largest illegal alien population of any state.

“I am curious to know what others think will happen in this country if Obama and McCain defy the states who have successfully passed enforcement laws and the majority of Americans & have enough bad guys in the Congress to pass amnesty. Thoughts please. I think it will be interesting indeed. Will the American people give up or find a way to fight back?”

Another major reason I don’t want McCain in the White House. The Republicans would fight amnesty harder if supported by Obama or Hillary, but might just roll over and let it pass if McCain were president.

Put those three together and you have the Bermuda Triangle of so-called Republican politics.

It means they get in the back of the line behind those who have already applied legally.

Huckabee has a plan to speed up the immigration process. It can take many years to become a U.S. citizen and I agree with him that it takes too long. With the electronic age and the way we can do background checks quickly, the ones with criminal records or other undesirable traits should be able to be screened out by this process.

I would go into more detail, but gotta go watch Saturday Night Live ; )

Just read up on Huck’s website. I promise you won’t get cooties if you go there...lol

It is because of governors like Huckabee, who are more sympathetic to illegal aliens than to American citizens, that our seniors are having their Medicare cut so drastically that doctors cannot afford to see them anymore! The Medicare cuts are so enormous that doctors can no longer afford the overhead and malpractice fees if they take Medicare patients. But hey, let’s give free health care to illegals. It’s disgusting what is happening to our own citizens while illegal aliens, with the help of politicians such as Huckabee and McCain, eat up our taxpayer benefits.

Ever hear of taxation without representation?

“It means they get in the back of the line behind those who have already applied legally.”

Well, in that case, a huge (95%+) percentage of them will never be allowed to return. The politicians should stop using this cowardly “go to back of the line” out and just say those who came illegally have little chance of ever returning legally.

There are more trying to come legally than will ever be allowed in.

I agree, but what about worst case scenario and amnesty is passed against the will of the people? I just don’t know what to expect then.

I agree with you. Huck is a liberal and has no class for staying in the race this long with out a chance of winning.

The country is infested with illegal immigrants!
The first illegals came on the Mayflower. They still
have not received amnesty by the native Indians.

“I agree, but what about worst case scenario and amnesty is passed against the will of the people? I just don’t know what to expect then.”

I don’t know either. There’d be many furious citizens, and many disheartened that the pols would ignore such a large majority. A new party might form, or many might just drop out of the political process.

I’ve written here and elsewhere how, for at least twenty years, 70% and more of citizens wanted immigration laws enforced, and even legal immigration reduced. But that they never made it a “vote deciding” issue, so the pols just ignored the polls. I hoped, but wasn’t confident, that this would be the election when it did become a vote deciding issue, but with the split non-McCain vote, it’s hard to make the case that things have changed.

Plenty of open-borders pundits and advocates are saying now that the immigration issue was unimportant after all, and it was just noise from a loud few last summer. The voting doesn’t disprove them, though I do believe the polls showing a high percentage against amnesty are correct.

But, now the pols who wanted to vote for amnesty last year, but were scared off it, might have decided that they can now vote for it and pay no price. No way to know until the time comes.

One interesting point that’s been made several times: since McCain is so for securing the border now, he has about nine months as a powerful Senator to support that. Wonder if we’ll see any action from him, or just hear the campaign rhetoric?

I do believe this is the billionaire who said he was for flooding our country with illegals because it saved him a few bucks a year on his green fees.

It’s scary to imagine a citizen actually being able to feed his family on what he makes as a greens keeper. Save us from that fright, Bloomberg.

He’ll go back to his true-lib colors after the election. Bank on it, he always claims to be a conservative in elections years. Of course, we AR Freepers don’t really know him because we haven’t read his website. /s

“Plenty of open-borders pundits and advocates are saying now that the immigration issue was unimportant after all, and it was just noise from a loud few last summer.”

Yeah, they are saying that, but states keep passing enforcement bills backed by the courts. And, Congress, was quick to strike out tax rebates to illegal aliens in the stimulus package.

“One interesting point that’s been made several times: since McCain is so for securing the border now, he has about nine months as a powerful Senator to support that.”

McCain is pulling the wool over people’s eyes. He will no doubt be the one who decides the ‘border is secure’ and then amnesty. He has never once backed off that stance even when American citizens crashed the Capitol switchboard last summer. He still voted for his amnesty bill.

I hate to think Americans will give up the fight to save our sovereignty if amnesty passes.

You know Huck from personal experience.

I was just relying on my bloodhound like instincts to smell a leftist from 5 miles away.

Thirst for political power is very un-Christian.

Somebody should explain to Huck that Jesus could have saved Himself if he used his power and politics in his pre-trial hearing with Pontius Pilate.

He could have avoided a Grand Jury indictment and the death penalty.

Huck would have learned that if he actually got a degree in Theology.
