As is often the case when considering proposals pushed by our lawmakers, many among us have resigned themselves to asking the wrong questions. Instead of pontificating the so-called merits of an 845 billion dollar expenditure, we should be asking ourselves: what have we wrought?
Despite the efforts, of many, to muddy the waters, the Constitution is relatively clear as to its intent with regards to the powers granted within. On those questions in which intent appears somewhat difficult to discern, we must as instructed by the framers themselves turn our attention to the thoughts expressed by the people making the law (and those ratifying the law in question). It is through such research that we can obtain the reasons specified for the passage, or consideration, of the potential law.
While there is a great deal of evidence that the framers often disagreed as to the best manner for governing the newly formed nation, there is no viable evidence in support of actions such as the one being discussed. Nor do we find supporting evidence in the often heated discussions which took place during the ratification of our Constitution; in fact we find evidence to the contrary, with members vehemently opposed to the concept of redistributing wealth from one group to another. Such ideas were thought to run counter to the basic tenet of freedom.

(Your article is great and I completely agree.)
Yes, we should all chip in and pay this additional $3K each of us to the UN to end world poverty. Because then there will be no more poor people, ever.
/end Miss America response
Yeah, shame he doesn’t have four more years to accomplish it...
Smirk.
Should Congress approve Obama’s end global poverty bill with the $845 billion pricetag?
Yes, waste money on stuff nobody needs so you can go back for more is a given, Democrat or Republican, thought at least the Republicans have lowered tax rates.
So we get to choose between the tax and spenders and the borrow and spenders. YAY!
Considering how many bridges in America need replacement...along with infrastructure issues in New York, Boston and Chicago...I’d be thinking of fixing my back yard before I go around fixing other folks yards.
We might need another month...Obamuary?
It's comments like this that give Republicans a bad name. Do you not care? Do you not have any feelings for the welfare of others? We are doing this for the children sir! I see no problem with Obama giving 3.4 trillion dollars to stop this crisis. When Obama is President he should immediately give an executive order to the Treasury to start printing this money...we could give it to the UN to distribute it.
Robert,
Do you know how much it would cost for us to print 3.4 Trillion dollars? Surely wouldn't cost that much. We can do this. We can end world poverty!
You’re just being silly now. This would never be possible.
First, you would never get the rest of the world to agree to this...especially the French.
Second, the republicans in Congress would never approve this plan.
WAIT!!!
Obama could do this by executive order!
How about ending poverty in America First?
Hell no!
If he takes 845billion out of this nation-
It will show just how smart our founders were in penning the second amnedment.
It would then be time.
Nobody, if we won't stand up for anyone who would.
Do not let your heart be troubled. He's still in office until January 19, 2009.
If we’re going to send money to foreign countries to end poverty, I say we air-drop it right on the villages. Those heads of state don’t look to be missing any meals so I don’t see any point in giving it to them.
Haven’t you heard? Everyone has a right to housing, a job, and healthcare. And its up to us rich Americans to pay for it. Not just for us, but world-wide.
I should add that anyone who opposes this largess will be called racist and mean-spirited.
Well, then, I guess I’m racist and bigoted.
This legislative tripe is beyond rational. This abrogation of US sovereignty is clearly unconstitutional, and should be the death knell of BHO’s presidential aspirations.
Unfortunately, I don’t see that is fueling the appropriate level of moral outrage that it should.
Sad, sad state of affairs for this grand experiment. And, I fear for the future of the country.
