The official record states that senator Robert F Kennedy, like his brother before him, was killed by a crazed lone gunman. But the assassination of a man who seemed to embody so much hope for a bitterly divided country embroiled in an unpopular war still troubles this nation.
Little about the official explanation of the events at the Ambassador Hotel on June 5 1968 makes sense. Now a new forensic analysis of the only audio recording of the fatal shots has given new weight to a controversial theory that there were in fact two shooters, and that the man convicted of Kennedy's killing Sirhan Sirhan - did not fire the fatal shots.

... the shortcut he and his entourage took through the hotel's pantry quickly descended into bloody mayhem. As Kennedy turned from shaking hands with two of the kitchen staff, a gunman stepped forward and began firing. Kennedy was hit by four shots including one which lodged in the vertebrae in his neck and another which entered his brain from below his right ear. He died in hospital the following day. Five other people were injured but survived.
But the lone gunman explanation has always looked shaky. The autopsy of Kennedy's body suggested that all four shots that hit him came from behind, and powder marks on his skin showed they must have been from close range.

"There is no doubt in our minds that no fewer than 14 shots were fired in the pantry on that evening and that Sirhan did not in fact kill Senator Kennedy," said Robert Joling, a forensic scientist who has been involved with the Kennedy case for nearly 40 years. He and Van Praag have published a book on the killing this week entitled "An Open and Shut Case".

“But the assassination . . . still troubles this nation”
Really? It’s nearly 40 years and I don’t hear anyone talk about this. It’s a distant third to JFK and MLK’s.
Don’t let your guard down, Barrack.
Why did you post such a statement ?
Why did you ?
The forensics show more bullet holes in Kennedy and the ballroom then Sirhan’s pistol held. Kennedy’s bodyguard was armed with the same caliber pistol as Sirhan. The persuasive case was made years ago the fatal shot was from an angle that Sirhan could not have reached, but was a direct line from where the bodyguard was standing.
Don’t really believe a conspiracy but a panicky bodyguard killing his principle seems probable. Not the first time it happened.
Obviously, all politicians of any stature in any country (e.g. recently in Pakistan, Lebanon) are in danger of assassination, and have been since Julius Caesar.
The Saint Kennedys are brothers in arms with Saint MLK but the historical record shows that the Saint Kennedys wiretapped Saint MLK’s phones.
Who killed whom is speculation but the wiretaps are naked fact.
Ah yes, the ole “Grassy Lobby” shot.........
I haven’t lost any sleep!
This article implies that RFK had a real chance of winning the Demo Party nomination in 1968.
That idea is false.
Less than 25% of delegate votes were decided by primary elections in 1968.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey was the overwhelming favorite with the Demo establishment, and he would have won the nomination easily on the first ballot.
Remember Mary Jo
I also wonder about the possibility of one of his body guards shooting him. Were their guns tested?
One of my friends from college is in the Secret Service. She told me that when Pelosi became Speaker of the House (and next in line for the Presidency behind the Vice President), death threats against Bush and Cheney jumped dramatically.
I’ve seen some interesting theories. My personal favorite is that an off duty cop, directly behind Bobby, accidentally shot Kennedy after being knocked down by the mayhem. Interestingly he not only had a gun of the right caliber, he got rid of both that gun and the gun he claimed to have with him under suspicious circumstances. Neither was ever made available for ballistics tests.
And the cop? He left the country.
Sheesh...I thought BO invented HOPE. I don't ever recall the country having HOPE before him. Since when did a Kennedy ever embody HOPE? Maybe for Camelot groupies, but not for anybody else.
Little discussed fact: he had 11 children with his wife.
Oh no, not more Kennedy death conspiracy crap, I can’t take it anymore!
