Why did you?
As I remember it, the caliber was .22.
Now I have no issue with Sirhan using that caliber, but a .22 seems just totally wrong for a bodyguard, where stopping power is an issue.
Rock on, Rennes Templar
Why did you?
You don’t suppose the ‘odd acoustic characteristics’ were because those ‘shots’ were echos, do you?
I can tell you that the assassination changed the way a presidential hotel runs things.
I worked as a young chef in L.A.’s Century Plaza Hotel when President Reagan used it as his Western White House. Every hotel employee was ID’ed at the only employee entrance, and wearing his/her employee photo ID at all times.
When Reagan was there, there were SS officers WITH DOGS everywhere. I personally prepared the President’s lunch salad with SS all around me, and a dog, in the kitchen.
Also, the hotel had completely separate corridors and elevators for the service personnel AS WELL AS THE VIPS, with no way for these hallways to be entered by the general public. Separate, sealed parking lots underground as well.
At the time, the Presidential Suite (penthouse floor, can be seen in “In the Line of Fire”) was built with such deep terraces all around that shooting inside from even a helicopter would have proven extremely difficult if not impossible. Now there are some buildings of equal stature around, which changes things.
archy, I believe you've posted on this topic before. Care to jump in?
Sirhan had long dealt with anger over Israel’s creation in 1948. Sirhan supposedly believed he was deliberately betrayed by Kennedy’s support for Israel in the June 1967 Six-Day War, which had begun exactly one year before the assassination.
As I recall, (although I could be mistaken) RFK was shot with a .22 caliber revolver that held 9 shots. It seems strange that an off-duty cop would be carrying a .22. In those days most carried .38's.
Of cource democracy is Mob Rule by mobsters always..
Which causes socialism or the Mobs Protection scam..
They charge you to protect you FROM THEM.. You know IRS and all that..
"..Sirhan had chipped in only $6 in the purchase by his brother Munir of the $25 murder weapon. Fitts also noted that the day before the shooting, Sirhan went to the San Gabriel Valley Gun Range for target practice. While on the range, one Mike Soccoman asked Sirhan what he intended to do with the small Iver Johnson .22-cal. pistol. Sirhan said he could use it for hunting, adding: "It could kill a dog." .."
It is insane if Kennedy's bodyguard also carried a 22! If so Kennedy HAD no bodyguard worthy of the name.
First black candidate, first female candidate, neon lighted flaming RINO candidate:
MSM here and overseas reminding us of past assassinations;
it's a really, really, critical election year.
Feeling a bit of a desire to stock up on tinfoil & kevlar.
*** It seems strange that an off-duty cop would be carrying a .22. In those days most carried .38’s.***
It is called a “drop gun”. Police shoot a man who happens to be unarmed. Suddenly there is found a cheap .22 in his hand. Police exonerated.
The officer in question owned both a 38 and a 22. He claimed he had the 38 that night, but proceeded to sell both pistols before they could be examined.
Not saying he did anything wrong, but I’d say he sure exercised poor judgment and odd timing in deciding to get rid of his guns.
Your bad dude.
The Huey Long “scenario” comes to mind.
This should be an interesting thread
Not to mention the two Georges' who were the end pieces of the assassination string. George Rockwell and George Wallace. Granted Wallace did survive but his political career did not.
HA!
