Reporter Michael Luo defended Barack Obama against an Ohio-based conservative talk radio host who had the audacity to utter Obama's middle name in Wednesday's "Host Disparages Obama, and McCain Quickly Apologizes." John McCain apologized to his fellow senator as well, though that didn't stop the Times from considering it newsworthy.
Senator John McCain apologized Tuesday after a conservative radio host who helped introduce him before a rally used Senator Barack Obamas middle name, Hussein, three times, while disparaging him.
Bill Cunningham, who is host of The Big Show with Bill Cunningham, a local program here that is also syndicated nationally, was one of several people who revved up the crowd before Mr. McCains appearance at a theater here.
Mr. Cunningham lambasted the national news media, drawing cheers from the audience, as being soft in their coverage of Mr. Obama compared to the Republican presidential candidates, declaring they should peel the bark off Barack Hussein Obama.
He went on to say, At one point, the media will quit taking sides in this thing and start covering Barack Hussein Obama.
. Mr. Obamas middle name, which is Muslim in origin, comes from his late father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., a Kenyan. Mr. Cunningham, like some other conservative commentators, uses it frequently when referring to Mr. Obama, apparently to draw attention to his ancestry. Mr. Obama has been dogged by whispered rumors that he is a Muslim; he is a Christian.
So is the phrase "Barack Hussein Obama" forbidden in the Times, since it is apparently terribly offensive? Not exactly. Several of the paper's columnists (the print equivalent of talk show host Cunningham) have used it.

Rush was talking about this yesterday. Obama's campaign managers are embarassment by his own middle name, and that won't bode well for Barak. By the way, isn't Barak the last name of the former Islamic head of Egypt? So we can't say "Barak" anymore either?
Obama is a member of the Luo tribe from Africa. This can't just be a coincidence.
Isn't Obama's father a member of the Luo tribe in Kenya? The same muslim tribe that was responsible for all the recent post-election violence in Kenya. Hmmm....
What’s hysterically funny about this is the irony of why Libs are so upset by this.
Conservatives would never vote for Obama regardless of his middle name, so the only people that could be influenced by his name are other Libs.
So, in fact they are fearful of their own parties “racism” and projecting onto us.
chuckle chuckle
Barry Hussein Obama, is the proper way to use his full name.
I guess they also don’t want to talk about how his first name is from the Koran.

You know, if all we have is his unfortunate given middle name and that fact that his last name sounds a lot like “Osama,” we will lose this election.
Yes, some conservatives are for Oprah’s Obama because they are caught up in the liberal culture and want to be with a winner. Many are as poorly educated as Obama himself.
It’s just silly to harp on his middle name. He didn’t name himself, his parents did. This will just blow up on us like it did on Hillary if we keep trying to use it. Like Glenn Reynolds said, if Obama’s middle name makes him a Muslim, then Bill Clinton’s middle name makes him a strict constructionist.
Exactly. There are lots of reasons Obama shouldn't be President, but this ain't one of them.
The same people who are upset over this had no problem with the Dems sneeringly talking about “J. Danforth Quayle” 20 years ago. I guess they thought having the middle name Danforth made Sen Quayle sound like some kind of rich elitist. How silly.
20 years... I suppose we also will be hearing a lot of tributes to that poor maligned innocent Willie Horton this year, as that was such an issue in the 1988 campaign as well.
Only if you believe that the "Jefferson" in William Jefferson Clinton was for Thomas Jefferson.
60 year ago in Arkansas, I'd bet the farm on that representing Jefferson Davis.
Michael Luo is a typical drive-by type, he attacked Mitt Romney relentlessly, like a pit bull on a pork chop. I can't find a photo of this man, but he's referred to as an "Asian-American", so I'm surmising he's of Islamic heritage like Barak Hussein Obama.
“The man’s name is Barack Hussein Obama. The politically correct can leave the”. . . kitchen.
Or Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 90s.
Oh come on, it isn't merely Obama's middle name that links him to Islam, it's also his first and last names, his paternal heritage and his early schooling. "Barak" was the last name of the former Islamic head of Egypt, and "Obama" is an African name from the region of Africa that is 99% Islamic, (Northeastern Kenya-Somalia). In his early years Obama attended Mohammedan schooling. Now it's easy for a politician to disavow his paternal heritage publicly, when it's politically expedient to do so, but as with every politician, one must look beyond his words and wonder what's in his heart. His Islamic name, first, middle and last, and his paternal heritage are fair game in these times of Islamic terrorism that we live in, imho.
Hussein (midi 3:48)Personally I like it in the Key of EIf you wanna hang out, you've gotta take him out: Hussein.
If you wanna get down, get down on the ground: Hussein.
He don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie, Hussein. If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues: Hussein.
When your day is done, and you wanna ride on, Hussein.
He don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie, Hussein. If your day is gone, and you wanna ride on: Hussein.
Don't forget this fact: You can't get it back: Hussein.
He don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie, Hussein.
He don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie, Hussein.
