Guns don’t kill people.....oh, wait, maybe they do!............
I’ve learned of Glock barrels that have ruptured because the owners rechambered the same round over and over and over at the beginning of every shift. This led to the bullet being methodically being hammered tighter into it’s casing and led to overpressure and barrel rupture when it was finally fired.
Crappy ammo.
GAP is new to me.
It's a custom round specifically made and promoted by Glock. It's a shorter .45 cartridge.
Kind of a flop like 10mm.
I’ved not heard that but it does make sense. BTW, I have two Glocks and have never had problems.
Good Grief: Were they made in China or Iran????
I worked for a gun store for 3 years. We sold alot of Glocks, and never had a single problem.
I beg to differ.
I’ve never had problems with mine either, but then again I’m not constantly rechambering the same round umpteen times.
Glad I never had a Glock and have Beretta, Springfield, Ruger and Smith & Wesson instead.
My understanding is that problem is limited to the Glocks chambered in .40.
I have the 22 and 23, and never had a problem, but I still make sure not to rechamber the same round repeatedly.
(I learned that from someone here! Thanks FR.)
Makes a lot of sense. Big caveat.
All these arguments remind me of guys arguing about GM vs. Ford trucks.
Its personal preference. I started out not liking Glocks. Now, any but the baby glocks are my favorite pistols. I traded an HK USP for a Glock. Some people thought I was crazy, but I hated the USPs controls and trigger. Personal preference.
That’s a possibility. Another is that the metal making up the chamber and barrel wasn’t strong enough to withstand the pressure created by the detonation of the primer and subsequent burning of the powder, and simply failed.
Hey there, I have two 10mm, a Delta Elite and Delta Elite Gold Cup and both have functioned as well as anything I have besides my 92F.
My 92F has put several thousand rounds of every type of crap ammo you can buy and has never failed once. Light cartridge, but dependable as hell.
My 10 is what I leave in my nightstand, I put a heavy spring in it and my kids aren't strong enough to chamber a round, I offered them $10 each if they could pull it back. Safe as if it had a lock, unless they decide to trow it at each other I suppose....
I had never heard of the “.45 GAP” cartridge. At first, I thought that some of the posters here were pulling our legs and having some fun with a typo. I just looked at the specs and I can see why the pistol might suffer from KB events. The shorter cartridge has less room for powder and would need a faster burning powder to develop the same velocity as a standard .45 ACP. This means higher peak pressures in the chamber and thus more wear and tear on the barrel.
It’s a testament, however, to the quality of Glock firearms that only minor injuries occurred. Glock KBs tend to blow up and out; away from the shooter. The polymer frame (And let’s all pause for a moment to remember the late Sen. Howard Metzenbaum, without whom we would have never heard of this “plastic gun”.) almost always protects the shooter from serious harm.
If all it takes for a pistol to explode is poor quality ammo...?
Even if there was room in the case for a double charge, and I doubt it would fit, a pistol still shouldn't come apart.
My guess is that they have (or had) a problem with the steel they got for barrels. Something perhaps not up to spec on the metallurgy. Beretta had a problem with the steel on the early 92's when they started making them in a new factory here in the U.S. in the 80's. But they fixed it, and I would think that Glock will figure it out too.
I almost opted for a Kimber but settled for a Springfield Armory XD 40....
I just purchased a Taurus PT145 that is SA/DA with a positive safety.
I wasn't exactly happy about the third generation of this pistol being SA/DA rather than DAO, but I am very impressed with its accuracy and have come around to believing that this is an improved, hybridized DAO that is every bit as safe.
I have heard that the XDs have a similar SA/DA configuration. Is that true? If it is, how do you feel about it?
You have class.
I own several Glocks.. 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. I’ve never had a single negative issue with any of them.
