You are so right. Mexico was not able to support the Spanish colonists here in order to back up any real claim. Mexican supply trains headed up into NM were regularly attacked by indians, and there was so much chaos in Mexico it became all but impossible to supply the Spanish up here. The colonists here in NM were very much on their own until the Santa Fe trail began to supply them with goods from the United States. Colonists became dependent on the supplies from the U.S. to the point that when the U.S. military moved in to take possession of this part of the Southwest there was little to no resistance- more like a shrug and so what.

But check out also Daniel 9-10 and Ezekiel 38 . . . several chapters thereabouts in Ezekiel.
Those all are not specifically on those points but I think it takes all those Scriptures to get the best over all view of what’s coming down the pike.

John F Walvoord’s EVERY PROPHECY OF THE BIBLE goes over every prophecy including the END TIMES prophecies better than anyone else I know—discussing all the views but coming down decidedly with these as the obvious end times described in Scripture—and fitting only our time, none other.
He’s passed away a few years ago but is the recognized dean of experts on such matters.

IIRC, Lincoln lost his congressional re-election bid because of his opposition to the Mexican War.
fwiw, FEW people whose opinion COUNTS "in the big scheme of things" share his bloated opinion of himself.
i frankly doubt that he'll be "running things" for much longer.

There do seem to be many things hidden in plain sight in Revelation.
I’ve gone through many periods of avoiding it. But, have learned something every time I’ve read it.
Walvoord has this to say on 552, 553 . . .
The First Seal: World Conquest
Revelation 6:1-2
The scroll with seven seals introduced now becomes the key to understanding events which were prophesied for this period. As the events are fulfilled, a seven-sealed scroll provides the major outline for events leading up to the Second Coming. Though many have attempted alternate views, probably the best approach is the view that the seven seals are the major events, or time periods, that out of the seventh seal will come a series of events described as seven trumpets, and out of the seventh trumpet will come a series of seven bowls of wrath: judgments on the world just preceding the Second Coming.
The effect is a crescendo of judgments coming with increased severity and in increasing tempo as the Second Coming approaches. Though the Book of Revelation is not written necessarily in chronological order, as will be seen, this outline forms the chronological background and order of revelation of the Book of Revelation to which the Scriptures in this section may be related.
As John watched, he recorded that the Lamb [Christ] opened the first seal, “I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, ‘Come!’ I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest” (vv1-2). The symbolism of a white horse in the first century represented a conquering military leader.
Later in Revelation Christ returns with the holy angels on white horses to conquer the world (19:11-21). Though there have been different interpretations concerning the white horse and its rider, the context would indicate that there is no real parallel between this rider and Christ as the rider of the white horse, and it is preferable to assume that this rider is the counterfeit Christ, or the Anichrist, the ruler who had previously gained control of the ten kingdoms in the Middle East.
In a description of the rider on the white horse, it states that he has a bow and a crown but does not mention an arrow. Though Scripture provides no interpretation of this, its probable meaning is that he becomes a conqueror without war. This seems to fit in all the other passages that relate to this world ruler. He apparently has risen to such power politically that no one is able to stand against him. in the later revelation of this same personage in Revelation 13, the question is asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him? (Rev 13:4) The answer, of course, is that no one is able to fight him.
The interpretation of the first seal raises the question as to where this occurs in end-time events. Probably the most popular view is that this introduces the final seven-year period. However, in [p554] verses which immediately follow, it speaks of terrible disasters overtaking the world which apparently occur in the second half of the last seven years. Also, the world government begins at the middle of the seven years. Accordingly, it is probable that the Book of Revelation, thugh recognizing the events of the entire seven years, concentrates on the three-and-a-half years before the Second Coming as containing the most significant and recognizable signs of the Lord’s [overt, physical, obvious, conquering—(Quix)] return.

There is another Scripture which speaks of the world ruller
MAKING WAR WITH PEACE.
A very curious phrase.
But what do we see now . . . Through forced, coerced, heavy handed ‘negotiations’ and ultimatums . . . country after country is engulfed . . . first in the world economic system and then otherwise Those balking or not moving fast enough or complying thoroughly enough are made object lessons.
Some are convinced that the puppet masters have ESSENTIALLY been in behind the scenes control since well before WWI. And that all the wars have been staged distractions facilitating yet hiding the increasing !!!!CONTROL!!!! OF THE GLOBALIST puppet masters.
In any case . . . Scripture encouragesus to WATCH; DISCERN THE TIMES, LOOK UP, BE READY FOR OUR LORD WITH EXTRA OIL [HOLY SPIRIT] TRIMMED LAMPS READY TO GO WITH HIM ON A MOMENT’S NOTICE—NOT LOOKING BACK . . .
May God Himself enlighten your reading of His Word in these trying times.
