CHEESED OFF [FUROR AS KLEIN SLICES KIDS' PIZZA FESTS](New York City Public School)

March 16, 2008 -- Joel Klein is a pizza-party pooper.

The schools chancellor's food police have put the kibosh on a 20-year-old "Pizza Day" tradition at a Queens elementary school, opening the door for a citywide ban, infuriating parents and upsetting kids.

"This borders on cruel," said Michael Teoduro, vice president of the PTA at PS 193 in Whitestone. "It's one thing that the kids really look forward to in school, and for no legitimate reason it's pulled out from under them."

Pizza Day took place once a month, when kids would eat 90 to 100 pies from local shop Pizza Chef instead of their regular lunch. Students needed a parental permission slip and paid $5 in advance for a slice and a container of fruit juice.

~~~ SNIP ~~~
Parents said they were first told that it was a nutrition issue, then that the fund-raiser violated a chancellor's regulation that bars for-sale food from competing against and replacing school-provided lunches.
Joel Klein needs to get his ass kicked.
It’s a cardinal sin to keep a New Yorker from their pizza.
I think it’s in the NYC charter somewhere. :)
Leftist fascists want to control all aspects of life. We’ve let them become very successful at it. Phone calls to the nazis, anyone?
First they came for the Skittles, but I said nothing, because I didn’t eat Skittles ....
Then they came for the pizza, but I said nothing...
when will it end? And PIZZA and FRUIT JUICE-yecch, obviously soft drinks are already out of bounds. What next from the edu-fascists?
Wow that is a pretty stiff price for one slice of pizza.
MM,
LOL- Have to agree on the Anchovies! ( Might be grounds for divorce, even, if it came down to that!)
...And what about pineapple on yer pizza? Have your meal and dessert all in one! YUCK!
>>>
However,
About those kids being deprived of their Pizza Day...very cruel and may cause emotional traumas these people are unprepared for!
LOL-
This whole thing should be examined again...IMHO
I guess that’s where the PTA made their money- at eight slices a pie, that’s a $40.00 pie.
Of course, maybe they were more generous with their slices.
To his dying day, every time my late great father in law, a WWII navy vet, called for pizza he told the shop “cut it into six slices, because I can’t eat eight!”
:)
I see we agree on the pineapple pizza topping too!
Who would ever have thought of putting pineapple on pizza-the FIRST time!!
A most unlikely combination !!
Let me fix that for ya... :-)
EGADS! Anchovies Onions? Anchovies Onions = contaminiation! They contaminate the entire area of the pizza within their midst! If anyone orders Anchovie onions on pizza for delivery in addition to our regular order I will always request that it be delivered in a separate car, so as not to contaminate the other pizzas!
Onions are, without doubt, the most horrid, disgusting, foul-tasting things on this planet!
Just to keep this on-topic...I just moved from NYC to America...and yes, it feels great to breathe air free from the stench of the fascist thug overlords of that hell-hole.
OK OK OK ... I hear ya. I'm not too keen on Onions either, although some of the red ones (grilled only) are fairly decent on an All-American cheeseburger .......
"They told us we were getting away with it for way too long. It's a joke."
Only a liberal could think of someone "getting away" with a pizza party
