Still Time to Change Party Affiliation for the NC Primaries
Tuesday, Mar 04, 2008 - 07:48 AM Updated: 10:08 AM

The May 6 presidential primaries in North Carolina are quickly approaching, but there’s still time to change your party affiliation.

Voters have until 5 p.m. April 11 to switch parties in time for this year’s primaries. Voters can do that on a voter registration application, which can be found at the board of elections office in each county, or at the library.

Voters can also print a registration application from the State Board of Elections web site, www.sboe.state.nc.us.

April 11 is also the deadline for new residents in North Carolina to register if they haven’t already done so.

Registered voters in North Carolina can only vote in the party primary with which they are affiliated. If they are unaffiliated – or independent – then they may vote in either party’s primary.

When they check in, unaffiliated voters can tell the poll workers which party’s ballot they would like. If they don’t, they will receive a non-partisan ballot.

Felon? No problem!

I was convicted of a felony a few years ago, but I'm out of jail now. Can I register to vote?

In order to register, you must not be a convicted felon still in custody, on probation, or on parole. If you've served all parts of your sentence, you can register.

For the first time in my life, I may actually become a RAT. Just how degrading is THAT?

As of May 10, 2007 all 50 states allow felons to vote. Restrictions apply in some states.

The two most restrictive are Kentucky, where voting rights can be restored only when the Governor approves an application for an executive pardon for reinstatement of voting rights from an individual after completion of his/her sentence.

Mississippi, where An individual, after completion of their sentence, must go to his or her state representative and convince them to personally author a bill reenfranchising that individual. Both houses of the legislature must then pass the bill, and the governor must sign it. Each year about 10 to 12 people are re-enfranchised in Mississippi.

25 states allow felons to vote after serving their sentences and parole or supervised release, 13 states allow felons to vote as soon as they leave prison, 2 states, (Maine and Vermont) allow incarcerated felons to vote.

The other 8 states allow felons to vote with less severe restrictions such as applying to county boards or waiting 2 to 5 years after completion of sentence.

Look, we’ve had our fun but Obama is wounded as it is, what with the problems with Rev. Wright. It’s time to let him limp to victory. Hillary won’t quit now anyway and some polls put her ahead.

The last thing you want is to give her attempts to steal the nomination an air of legitimacy (that could help reunite the party) by making her margins against Obama any bigger.

I have to say that Operation Chaos has made this one of the most entertaining election cycles that I can remember. The wheels haven’t just come off the Democratic machine, they’re flying into the stands and killing the spectators.

Rev. Wright will claim whitey stole the election. This fight needs to go on all the way to Denver.

And I'm saying it will go all the way to Denver as it is.

My concern is that the more we damage it Obama the more legitimate the superdelegates handing the nomination to the beast gets.

Freepers need to step back a bit. We tend to forget how tough Clinton Inc. can be and we REALLY tend to forget how easily 'rats pull together and how the MSM covers for them.

At some point, the narrative WILL change to "Rush Limbaugh and GOP crossovers stole the nomination from a black man" and the DNC will unite behind Hillary to "avenge" Obama.

Mark my words. We've been playing Russian roulette here and every day we get closer to pulling the trigger one time too many.

I may just participate in Operation Chaos. I’ve been unaffiliated since the Libertarian Party got kicked off the ballot here.

El Zibo and some conservatives want Hillary Clinton to be President just to stick to McCain and the Republican party, make no doubt about it.

Yeah, that’s a brilliant plan. After all, it isn’t like Hillary will then pack the federal bench and every department of government with thousands of Clintonistas. </sarc>

I guess El Rushbo was on oxycotin during the whole Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame thing and forgot what can happen when a ‘Rat leaves his people in office for the next GOP president.

I would do almost anything for the team. Officially joining the OTHER team and voting for an impeached *Crinton makes me wanna puke. BECOME A RAT? Man, oh man. That's a tough one.

I'm still thinkin' about it.

Oh, and best regards to you and your family. Just remind them what I may be doing on their behalf...

"For the first time in my life, I may actually become a RAT. Just how degrading is THAT?

As that old song goes, "It only hurts for a little while."

Believe me I know. I crossed over and voted for the Beast here in VT.

First time I voted Dhimmi since I voted for LBJ some 44 years ago.

Of course, not that anyone can state for certain that keeping her in the race is the cause of the chaos, confusion and disarray within the RAT party, but the affects have been fanstastic and thus, my conscience is clear.

More adult beverages and snacks, please.

I’m with you. People are trying to be too clever for their own good. It didn’t take long for memories to fade as to just how skilled at being ruthless the Clinton crowd is.

"El Zibo Rushbo and some many conservatives want Hillary Clinton to be President just stay in the race in order to create chaos and confusion within the Dhummy Party.

I challenge you (who keep raising this inane suggestion) to show ONCE whereby Rush has EVER intimated that he is actively advocating a HildaBeast presidency.

Most people who criticize him are usually those who don't listen to him at all.

If you believe for one minute that Rush has ulterior motives in wanting (MUCH LESS NEEDING) to see HRC as POTUS simply for ratings, you must be suffering from LDS--Limbaugh Derangement Syndrome.

I've heard of many others jumping on the CHAOS bandwagon. I salute them all! One caller to Rush's radio show said that he hadn't been that jazzed since voting in 1984!

Alright. I'll think about it some more. I've got time...
