The Real McCarthy Revealed
IBD ^ | March 24, 2008

National Security: The latest sin ex-President Clinton is accused of is "McCarthyism." But a new, meticulously researched book corrects misconceptions about the abuse of that term by the media and the left.

Over the weekend, a retired Air Force general and Barack Obama supporter charged the former president with McCarthyism for seeming to question the patriotism of the Illinois senator, now leading the Democratic race for president.

The Obama and Hillary campaigns both soon scrambled to apologize — such sting does that venomous word carry. The dictionary defines McCarthyism as "personal attacks on individuals by means of widely publicized indiscriminate allegations, especially on the basis of unsubstantiated charges."

More than a half-century after the death of Sen. Joseph McCarthy, even many anti-communist intellectuals join in the almost universal revilement of the Wisconsin Republican's memory.

"Surely the man who did the greatest damage to the cause of anti-communism was the American Senator Joe McCarthy," Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum casually declares in her 2003 history of the Soviet Gulags.

British historian Andrew Roberts in his "History of the English-Speaking Peoples Since 1900" writes that McCarthy "did not in fact discover a single communist."

But in 600 pages of text, backed up by 22 pages of scrupulous reference notes, veteran reporter and editor M. Stanton Evans, founder of Washington's National Journalism Center, proves that Applebaum, Roberts and countless others have swallowed whole a lie — because they never bothered to go back and check the facts.

The dictionary defines McCarthyism as "personal attacks on individuals by means of widely publicized indiscriminate allegations, especially on the basis of unsubstantiated charges."

Another myth is that the Libs hated McCarthy. While they did have an intense disliking for him, they also had a genuine respect for him for helping them develop their current methods and strategies that they have employed against the Republicans and Conservatives ever since. And now, they have become so practiced in their version of "McCarthyism" that they have now taken to using it against members of their own party. So, they didn't like McCarthy but he, or at least their concept of him and what he did, was a mentor figure to the modern Democratic Party.

McPeak
"I grew up, I was going to college when Joe McCarthy was accusing good Americans of being traitors, so I've had enough of it."
Speaks volumes about McPeak as well.

Tail gunner Joe, as he often was referred as, had uncovered an enormous amount of factually correct information exposing communism within the state department(still there today) as well as the FDR administration. McCarthy's mistake was going after General George C. Marshall and the Army signal corps at Monmouth, New Jersey.

Is in not interesting how as history was rewritten to deny the facts of McCarthy, now has to written to accurately portray what in fact happened and is undeniable today....

[ British historian Andrew Roberts in his "History of the English-Speaking Peoples Since 1900" writes that McCarthy "did not in fact discover a single communist." ]

Not true.. McCarthy discovered few that were NOT communists.. Proved by the Winona papers and research into KGB files in Moscow.. Easily researched.. Actually several books were written about what was found..

Like Stalin funded most of the communist partys activity's in the United States directly and guided by several known american operatives of espionage under foreign control.. Most of whom worked within the Roosevelt and Truman administrations.. Domestic communist and socialist operatives still are embedded in the State Department and other career positions..

The republican party has cared less for decades.. To the extent socialism is a word almost never heard in Washington D.C. even though espionage is the main effect.. All three current Presidential hopefuls are virulent socialist operatives..

Absolutely! In another piece McPeak is quoted as saying Obama would make one the the finest CIC's in history. Tony's no more than a libtard.

I don’t agree that McCarthyism was anything more than a witch hunt. If we really want to reject communism, we should stop voting for major party socialists.

From Ann Coulter's Treason...

"Among the most notorious Soviet spies in high-level positions in the Roosevelt and Truman administrations -- now proved absolutely, beyond question by the Soviet cables(Venona Project) -- were Alger Hiss at the State Department; Harry Dexter White, assistant secretary of the Treasury Department, later appointed to the International Monetary Fund by President Truman; Lauchlin Currie, personal assistant to President Roosevelt and White House liaison to the State Department under both Roosevelt and Truman; Laurence Duggan, head of the Latin American Desk at the State Department; Frank Coe, US representative on the International Monetary Fund; Solomon Adler, senior Treasury Department official; Klaus Fuchs, top atomic scientist; and Duncan Lee, senior aide to the head of the OSS." -- Ann Coulter, P. 44

Even William F. Buckley said he was a patriot decades ago, but the American people will never believe this. They have been brainwashed too long to recognize truth when it is presented to them.

History textbooks still follow the socialist line on McCarthy. Nothing is ever mentioned in textbooks about the Venona papers, etc. The truth is hence safely ignored, and that suits the American people just fine. The American people don’t like to be corrected about the myths in which they believe. That’s why a poll says New Yorkers have tremendous confidence in new Governor Paterson. Never mind the truth!

I’m afraid you’re correct. When a four star general denounces him it shows how stupid many people are when it comes to McCarthy.

McPain is just not that informed about most things. He just recites what Chris Matthews wants to hear so that Chris will keep inviting him back. Still, he knows we have no choice but to “vote” for him.

McPeak - not McPain. This is the bozo who said McCarthy smeared good commies, er, Americans.
