A year ago, Barack Obama addressed a group in Selma, AL commemorating the 1965 voting rights march. He credited the event with giving his parents the idea that they could have a child. The result was him--Barack Obama, Child of Destiny. The only problem is he was born in 1961.

That’s another one. He credits the Kennedys for the airlift. He strongly implies that JFK was in the White House at the time. But for him to have been conceived in time to be born August 8, 1961, his conception would have to have been in November, 1960 which is during the Eisenhower years. The August 1960 story in Time linked below is about the election year wrangling over the airlift. It hadn’t happened by that time.

Legally, any marriage certificate would have been worthless anyway, because of the extant Kenyan marriage.
Barack Obama Sr. and Stanley Ann Dunham were not legally married at the time of Jr.’s birth.
The only question is whether they lied to the Dunham family about it together, or Barack Sr. lied to Stanley Ann and went ahead with a sham wedding to divert the disapproval of their family, peers and neighbours.

Well to be far this was after Brown vs. Board, after Little Rock, after Rosa Parks, and a years before the Freedom Rides started. The atmosphere he was referring too was certainly there.
I’m just not going to sweat the small stuff like this. Obama has too many other juicy issues to fret over something like this.
Mythologising one’s own’s origins IS an issue—it goes to demonstrate the character of the candidate, who will lie even when the truth would have been good enough.
