The statements of Jeremiah Wright aren't controversial and incendiary; they're wicked and stupid.
Slate ^ | March 24, 2008 | Christopher Hitchens

Posted on 04/07/2008 2:31:19 PM PDT by george76

It's been more than a month since I began warning Sen. Barack Obama that he would become answerable for his revolting choice of a family priest. But never mind that; the astonishing thing is that it's at least 11 months since he himself has known precisely the same thing.

"If Barack gets past the primary," said the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the New York Times in April of last year, "he might have to publicly distance himself from me. I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen."

Pause just for a moment, if only to admire the sheer calculating self-confidence of this. Sen. Obama has long known perfectly well, in other words, that he'd one day have to put some daylight between himself and a bigmouth Farrakhan fan.

But he felt he needed his South Side Chicago "base" in the meantime. So he coldly decided to double-cross that bridge when he came to it. And now we are all supposed to marvel at the silky success of the maneuver.

You often hear it said, of some political or other opportunist, that he would sell his own grandmother if it would suit his interests. But you seldom, if ever, see this notorious transaction actually being performed...

To have accepted Obama's smooth apologetics is to have lowered one's own pre-existing standards for what might constitute a post-racial or a post-racist future. It is to have put that quite sober and realistic hope, meanwhile, into untrustworthy and unscrupulous hands. And it is to have done this, furthermore, in the service of blind faith.

Mark my words: This disappointment is only the first of many that are still to come.

We talked about how refreshing it would be for someone who knew about Islam to be in the Oval Office.

Your own question to me was, Didn’t I think it would be incredible to have somebody in the Oval Office who not only knew about Muslims, but had living and breathing Muslims in his own family?

Good post . To me the issue was never whether Obambi believed what Wright was saying . Neither of them believed those things , they were being said to cultivate , agitate , captivate , and control an ignorant flock . Any con-man knows you can only skin a sheep once , but you can shear them over and over .

Members of Trinity United Church of Christ squeezed into a downtown hotel ballroom in early March to celebrate the long service of their pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.

One congregant stood out amid the flowers and finery: Senator Barack Obama, there to honor the man

Asked if he and Mr. Wright had patched up their differences, Mr. Obama said: “Those are conversations between me and my pastor.”

Mr. Wright, who has long prided himself on criticizing the establishment, said he knew that he may not play well in Mr. Obama’s audition for the ultimate establishment job.

“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”

Mr. Hitchens’ hatred for religion colors a great deal of what he says and writes. This article is no exception.

Which is not to say that he is wrong in this case. Perhaps the single most abhorrent aspect of churches is that frauds and fools worm their way into the heirarchies and pulpits and by their evil invective and horrific actions discredit real religion. Wright, Meeks, Farrakhan and their ilk are not religious at all. They worship no real god but bow instead to their own twisted idols. They worship power and money ora at the altar of some insane ideology and the fruit of their labors are resentment, hatred and violence. Not for anything on this earth would I want to be such a man as on that inevitable day when each faces the real God and the truth of what they have done and who they are - and who they could have been - is revealed to them their anguish will be terrible. I believe that forgiveness is available to all who will avail themselves of it. But I also believe that the overweening arrogance of some makes the likelihood of such a reach very nearly impossible.

Not to mention for personal gain. Wright promptly moved into a $1M home in a Typical White Person golf course community.

Etc.

"You often hear it said, of some political or other opportunist, that he would sell his own grandmother if it would suit his interests. But you seldom, if ever, see this notorious transaction actually being performed, which is why I am slightly surprised that Obama got away with it so easily. (Yet why do I say I am surprised? He still gets away with absolutely everything.)"

Say whatever you want about Hitchens's disdain of religion in general, he's so right on this point alone I want to clap until my hands fall off. Obama trying to draw moral equivalence between a woman afraid of a guy aggressively panhandling and a man preaching anti-Americanism, racial division, provably false tinfoil-hat conspiracy theories, and Marxist crap from his pulpit is beyond the pale. Especially considering that same woman helped him get to where he is today, by sending him to a nice school as well as feeding, clothing and sheltering him.

Hitchens connected some dots here, and I'm going to try to phrase it another way.

For decades, it has been assumed by some, that America is a racist country and its citizens are racist. Of course, the assumption is that it is the whites who are racist.

Wright has made some highly inflammatory racial remarks and these remarks were known to Obama. In fact, Obama knew he might have to distance himself from Wright after the primary. It is a guilty knowledge, but Obama is trying to be too clever.

More than that though, tens of millions of blacks in this country are backing Obama. By linkage, they support Obama, who supports Wright.

The bottom line is that tens of millions of whites are going to dismiss any further accusations of being racist. Blacks support Obama, Obama supports Wright. Whites should give a small thought of thanks to Obama. Singlehandedly he exposed the vile and wicked side of black theology, and it has permanently insulated whites from further nonsensical racial epithets. Whites are free to ignore this crap because of Wright. The race hustlers are only going to be laughed at now, and no one will take them seriously. All the people will have to do is to invoke the name of Reverend Wright and his church of hate and bigotry.

I see nothing anti-religious in this observation:

BO never mentions his Baptism ?

"YES, MUSLIMS ARE MEMBERS IN OUR CHURCH." "WE HAVE MANY MEMBERS IN OUR CHURCH WHO ARE MUSLIMS." LINK.

Baptism does not appear to be a requirement to join this 'church' - muslims 'accept' Jesus as a prophet superseded by mohammad.

http://www.answering-islam.org/Intro/islamic_jesus.html

The Qur’an

‘Isa, was a prophet of Islam

Jesus’ true name, according to the Qur’an, was ‘Isa. His message was pure Islam, surrender to Allah. (Âl ‘Imran 3:84) Like all the Muslim prophets before him, and like Muhammad after him, ‘Isa was a lawgiver, and Christians should submit to his law. (Âl ‘Imran 3:50; Al-Ma’idah 5:48) ‘Isa’s original disciples were also true Muslims, for they said ‘We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered. We are Muslims.’ (Al-Ma’idah 5:111)
