The trouble began, Jolita Berry said, when she asked a girl in one of her art classes at Reginald F. Lewis High School to sit down.

The student did not obey, coming closer to confront the teacher. "She said she's gonna bang me," Berry said. "I said, 'Back up, you're in my space. If you hit me, I'm gonna defend myself.'"

But Berry, who is 30 and started her job teaching art at the Northeast Baltimore school in December, did not defend herself. The girl caught the teacher off guard as other students cheered her on and screamed, "Hit her!"

"She just started beating on me relentlessly," Berry said, recalling the Friday morning incident that left her with a sore shoulder and a broken blood vessel in her eye.

Um...churches cannot compel people to send their kids to their schools. ( Mr. Rogers)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You have a created a strawman. I did not use the word **compel**. NOTHING that I posted even suggested compulsion. How can I defend an argument of **your** creation?

Every government school, by law, is officially god-less. If they are not, they are breaking the law.

There are two competing educational worldviews and completely exclusive. The can NOT coexist together. They are:

1) One is God centered.
2) The other is godless.

BOTH education worldviews have religious, cultural, and political consequences for everyone in the nation.

Therefore: If churches REALLY cared about their kids (more than the government teachers putting money in the collection plate) every church would have a god-centered school offering a god-centered moral and ethically based education for their kids.

They don't!

“The principal actually criticized the teacher for using... “trigger-words”.”

The principal is the problem. I’ll bet the principal can’t be fired and votes Democrat.

NCLB? Sorry, but that has nothing to do with it. We are coddling criminals. If the criminals are people “of color,” there are liberals who will attack the victim and make endless excuses for the criminal. If the victim is a person “of color” as well, the liberals will dance around it until nobody pursues it any more. The victim will be ostracized for making the “community” look bad and will eventually back off out of fear and exhaustion. It has nothing to do with NCLB.
NCLB causes alot of problems, but it does not erase criminal complaints or convictions.

I have read articles by writers like Dalrymple and Steyn that talks about the re-primitivation of societies. Where there is no fatherhood of God, there is no brotherhood of mankind.

“The Principal is right. The word “defend” could have sounded like a challenge to a fight.”

Absolutely, just like wearing a bullet proof vest invites a criminal to shoot you.

Some times I am in favor of abortion...post-term about 16-18 years. Should be legal in case like this.

“There is no social problem that we face today that can’t be traced to a “liberal” policy as its cause.”

I’ve had that same thought many times. Liberalism is the art of breaking what has worked for centuries.

Liberalism is the art of breaking what has worked for centuries.

Because "liberalism" stems from immaturity. The immature think for some reason that they are wiser in their limited years of experience than the traditions that have been developed over centuries of trial and error (or handed down from God in his Word).

That sounds more like arrogance than immaturity. Another factor if is an institution works for 95% of the population, liberals insist that it be restructured to work for the other 5%. It matters not if the 5% are unwilling to work within the system, the institution must change to accommidate THEM. The result is a system that work for only 5%

She said the principal told her she'd provoked the attack by telling the student she would defend herself.

This is not a unique response. It seems to be something school administrators are "trained" to say re. abusive/violent behavior by ANY student. Any negative behavior (including that between students) is "provoked" by someone - usually the most innocent party involved, and quite often the teacher. Maybe the administration doesn't want a confrontation with the role-model parents of these belligerent little monsters. (I am generalizing, but hey, there are some pretty threatening parents out there dependent on this free, liberal babysitting.)

People who watched the HBO series “The Wire” may have thought they were watching fiction. In actuality, it was a Docudrama! Our media hype people up if a child gets food poisoning in a commercial establishment, but totally ignore the toxic atmosphere that some of America’s next generation are forced to experience every day that they attend these disgusting schools.

These children become feral!!!!!

That’s another reality of “liberalism” - all of their programs go something like this:

1) There is a problem where a slim minority is experiencing a consequence for a chosen behavior.
2) Libs “act” to alleviate this consequence because it makes them feel good to do so. This is done at no expense to the recipient, and great expense to the majority.
3) After the consequence is alleviated, for some inexplicable (to a leftist) reason, they see a great increase in the occurrence of the behavior choice leading to the consequence.
4) Libs declare that the problem was worse than they though all along, and demand more funding.
5) Go to 3.

You must have been joking. Having a child is the preferred career path. because it confers status, and monetary reward from our govt.

Now I would have guessed the teacher being white, and the attacker being black. You know, a non-hate crime.

%%%%%

Very few white teachers remain in the Baltimroe City School System = after years of a hostile work environment from students and principals. White teachers are very definitely cowboys in Indian Territory.
Baltimore imports teachers from the Philippines. At present there are about 400 under contract - which they cannot break! Can we say indentured servitude! Two of them commited suicide last year.

Thanks for adding the real history of this terrible school to the record of this thread.

Besides all the dysfunction that existed before NCLB, now students know that administrations will and do lie on the stats they produce.

Children learn what they see, and these kids see that adults only care about their own hides/jobs. These are the children who really are part of a new anti-civilization. Middle class black families do all that they can to get their children into safe school systems.

When a school has to change its name because of a bad rep, ie stats, it is a huge red flag. Reginald F Lewis is one of them.

PS: O’Malley was on cspan this morning because he was scheduled to testify to a Congressional Committee on the mortgage situation.

He is a slick b......

One of the best things about the descent of the Clinton machine is that MOM had allied with Ms Clinton. However, he is in position to use Maryland as a test case for lots of plans that the libs have.

I agree that the criminal act has nothing to do with NCLB.

When it comes to school violence, principals and other school administrators stick their heads in the sand. They don’t report school crimes or suspend/expel students because if they do, their school could be hit with the “Dangerous” tag.

In a way, a principal’s hands are tied. If they do their jobs, report the crimes and get these kids out of the schools - they’re basically throwing their careers away. Damned if they do something, Damned if they don’t.

On the other hand, if the students know that they can get away with anything without consequence - they will.

The teachers are caught in the crossfire - literally.

Exactly, and then when you point out that the situation was 10X better before they started messing with it, they say that just dont remember how bad it was that you are mistaking Leave it to Beaver reruns for real life.

What happens if the power ever goes out in a city like Baltimore for more than 24 hours?

By the way, my sister-in-law was pushed down the stairs by a bunch of her 6th grade students. (This was inner Philly.)

My husband grew up there, and his mother was a teacher. She retired early because she couldn't take any more of the politics in school. One complaint was that the teachers were never allowed to lay a hand on the children. Even if they were fighting, the teachers were not allowed to touch them to break up the fight.

I grew up outside Philly in a town that was a miniature version of Philly, and a relative was a high school teacher there. She was a small, petite woman, and she was punched and knocked down once by a female student... and that happened back in the '70's.
