The trouble began, Jolita Berry said, when she asked a girl in one of her art classes at Reginald F. Lewis High School to sit down.

The student did not obey, coming closer to confront the teacher. "She said she's gonna bang me," Berry said. "I said, 'Back up, you're in my space. If you hit me, I'm gonna defend myself.'"

But Berry, who is 30 and started her job teaching art at the Northeast Baltimore school in December, did not defend herself. The girl caught the teacher off guard as other students cheered her on and screamed, "Hit her!"

"She just started beating on me relentlessly," Berry said, recalling the Friday morning incident that left her with a sore shoulder and a broken blood vessel in her eye.

Hell, there are a number of moves afoot to release large numbers of felons because of budget problems. The problems are growing so fast they are overwhelming the Justice System's ability to keep these types from infecting Society.

I've got just the place for them:

It's getting to the point where I think I would like the island.

At some point in the future, it would not surprise me one bit if there was a glass partition between teachers and students, much like bank drive-throughs today.

LOL! More like prison. Hmm. Imprison first, then educate. Yes, I can see that happening.

Don’t we have some islands in the Aleutians that we aren’t using?

These animals aren't afraid of jail. They don't even fear God. They aren't afraid of any authority whatsoever. They are afraid of one thing though and that is work.

I think it would be an obligation of this society to sentence this wild animal to hard labor and hard discipline for a few years and don't allow the typical story of mommy being a drunk and daddy not caring as an excuse to do evil. She knows what she did was wrong.

What does the military do to establish hard discipline? They break you down and build you back up again. When it comes to violent offenders we tend to skip the break down part and that is why these animals are repeat offenders who will never break the cycle of hate, violence, drugs, sex and deviancy.

Part of the success of a break down is a sense of accomplishment when you are rebuilt. Feeling sorry for people doesn't help anyone.

*** There are some schools that are soooooo toxic that it would be better to be illiterate and innumerate rather than ever step foot in them. ***

I was ging to, prolly should have, noted that ALL Baltimore Publik Skolls - the entire system - has a rating of 3 out of 10. So this school is typical, they're all Hell Holes in Baltimore. Any parent who sends their kids there are asking for trouble.

But that's how the Dems like it. A bunch of Criminal Morons dependent on the gubmint (them) for existence.

Obviously, there must be good kids in this school. Why aren’t we rescuing the decent kids?

On what do you base that statement? The article mentions that this cesspit of a school was one of those created when the state broke up an even larger (and more chaotic?) cesspit of a school.

Why must there be good kids there?

The story states that someone recorded this on a cellphone.

I am convinced the real reason cellphones are prohibited at school is because incidents like these can and will be recorded, exposing the true nature of these institutions and the people in charge of them.

The principal of the school must go.
It is the principals responsibilty to provide a safe learning environment for students and teachers.
Many students today think they can hit a teacher and not have any retalation. In my school the principle would insist the resource officer press criminal charges and expel the student. Oh, and I would be allowed to defend myself. Our students know this, and when one steps into a teachers personal space on our campus, the teachers response is usually to close it up a little tighter on the student and repeat the request - once. If they don’t respond then the teacher calls for an Assistant principle to remove the student from the classroom, usually the principal and any available AP’s show up as a group to remove the student. I had a student threaten to wipe the courtyard up with me once. His ten day suspension for just the threat made him quickly realize that he wasn’t at his old school. - Leadership - that’s what the schools like the one in the article are missing.

Sounds like you need to find a new church, rather than ranting about yours on this forum. Many churches now run their own schools, and many others actively support homeschooling.

There may be a church that kisses up to the NEA, but not any I’ve ever attended.

Quote, "As a fomer Alummni of this school I would not recommend this school for any student."

Alumni is plural, and there's no such thing as a "former alumnus" any more than someone can be a "former veteran."

The student should be expelled, arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. After that, she should pay the teacher monetary damages while working at picking up garbage on the sides of the road.

Make her wish that she had never done this and determined to never do it again!!!!

Here's something from the article that most here seem to have missed:

Part of the public outrage stemmed from how Berry said her principal responded to the incident. She said the principal told her she'd provoked the attack by telling the student she would defend herself.

The principal's first reaction was to blame the victim. All this liberal emphasis on children's self-esteem has produce not healthy, happy children but dangerously narcissistic, self-absorbed thugs.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. If you want on/off either list, please freepmail me and let me know which list it is that you want to be put on or taken off of.

Sounds like that poor little student didn’t get her warm, subsidized public school breakfast that morning. Maybe we need to start a program that will allow teachers to go to the child’s home and wake these poor kids up just a few minutes earlier so they can take full advantage of a smart breakfast!
