“Nearly one year ago, in May 2007, I traveled to Washington D.C., and visited the offices of some key members of Congress and administration officials to discuss the feasibility of my possible candidacy for the 1st District US Congressional Seat,” Jenerette said. “My reception was very positive and on my return to South Carolina I spoke candidly with a number of political insiders, community leaders, and people of this district and they confirmed what I had heard over-and-over; we needed ‘new-blood’ and a new aggressive conservative congressman to represent the 1st District in Congress.”

[snip]

“I’ve been in SC local, state and national politics and I’m not a girl scout anymore and I know this is going to be an uphill fight,” Jenerette said. “But, just like my unit’s job in the Army has been described as being a ‘combat politician’ it reminds me a lot of South Carolina politics.”

“Lets face it, you don’t become an Army Paratrooper unless you expect to hit some hard DZ’s - Drop Zones,” Jenerette said, “and you don’t get into South Carolina politics without expecting every political and personal enemy you ever had to sharpen their knives and come after you big time.”

So, to kind of answer your question; read all the rumors, make a timeline, read all the blogs, read every news story, read every 'spin' - then read about me and my issues and make up your own mind. It's not difficult to see what this is and what it is not. I figure this way; borrowing from US Congressman - Col. David Crockett; "You can vote for me to be your US Congressman or you may all go to hell and I will go with the US Army to Iraq.”

Please see post #81 - Thanks you for all the feedback - I have just left my unit and am on the road with my blackberry trying to stay FREEPED on my way back to 'civilian' life with the family for a while. Of course that really translates into kiss the children; get my high school son who 'thinks-he-is-grown' his drivers-permit; and run out to the campaign trail after instructing dad on dishes, laundry and homework!

thanks - I'll add a better response later!

I'm betting she gets past it by seeing him vindicated. I can't say for sure that Van is innocent, but after reading the thread Game Hen linked to and the accuser's blog, something about this case smells very bad. The word "tacit" in the arrest warrant is a big, big red flag to me.

Katherine, you and Van will be in my prayers, and so willl everyone else involved in this horror. God is in control.

Not realy, no I don't.
Your post 22 said:

b) Congresscritters will get to have a big say in one's monthly income, leading to even easier mass social experimentation.

Your response when I asked you to explain, did not mention monthly income. It appears you had gone off half-cocked again.

Under the current Fair Tax plan, the prbate would be paid monthly. Therefore, Congress would have a say in one’s monthly income, and could use it as leverage.

Katherine, excellent C.V., credentials, and position issues on your website. You rock! And it's great to see a FR colleague getting into the national political scene. I wish you all kinds of success in your run -- and I hope you're part of the conservative team in 2012 that will clean up the mess McCain will leave behind.

On a secondary note (this part's for JimRob) -- are there any stats on how many FReepers have entered politics, or are currently running for political positions? Whatever the number is, I expect the number of FReepers in public life to skyrocket in the next few years!
