Los Angeles 'is a Third World city'
Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 23/04/2008 | Staffer

Posted on 04/22/2008 7:44:40 PM PDT by PotatoHeadMick

Los Angeles is becoming a "Third World city" with immigrants making up half its workforce, says a new study.

A third of immigrants have not graduated from high school and 60 per cent do not speak English fluently, the Migration Policy Institute found.

It said this left immigrants ill-equipped to fill California's fastest-growing occupations, such as computer software engineering and nursing. The organisation added that as the so-called baby boomers reach retirement age, a similar pattern will spread across the US.

Ernesto Cortes Jr, of the Industrial Areas Foundation, a think-tank that specialises on social change, claimed Los Angeles was at a crossroads.

"The question is are we going to be a 21st century city with shared prosperity, or a Third World city with an elite group on top and most on near poverty wages?" he said.

Most third world cities enjoy some sense of sovereignty.

Illegal immigrants are “uneducated peasants”.

Every city on earth has changed over time, especially over the past half century. It is inevitable.

Where have I heard those words before?

Ummmmm.....

Oh, yeah. Something about a "new America":

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

Our future cannot be separated from the future of Latin America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. Those are reported crimes. Statistics rely on information. LA is likely not reporting crimes. Or, gangs don’t report crimes committed by other gangs.

I can’t think of any. Even in the predominantly white cities, the crime is concentrated in minority areas, especially in the new invader barrios.

I moved from SoCal to north FL to escape the demographic tsunami that is building.

I don't want my children to be stuck in an ethnic war zone, on the losing side.

I see from the statistics in the article that LA is now probably more Caucasian than many other American cities such as say, ...Houston. ;^)

If you took the time to read the article, you would see that this is more than just about crime rates. You have a race war on your hands in LA.

As stated previously, this is more than just about crime. FYI: the per capita figures are one indicator. It is worth noting that there were 480 murders in LA compared to 76 in Richmond; 1059 forcible rapes in LA vs 76 in Richmond; and Aggravated Assault: 14,634 in LA to 902 in Richmond.

LA is a typical US city. It has very nice areas. It has bad areas. It has electricity and running water to all areas. It has paved roads throughout.

LA is indeed far from being a "Third World," city. It is an American city which has been overwhelmed by Third Worlders. Although it is a flagrant example, it is not an uncommon phenomenon in this country, and others.

Hell, it's not even uncommon in The Third World. 60 years ago, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, and Mexico City were great, clean, bustling and above all pleasant modern towns. When rural people in these nations, immigrated en masse to these cities, they degenerated into the hellholes they are today, and which LA is in the process of becoming. Like LA, they have beautiful neighborhoods, but much larger "bad" areas, which range from livable zones, to shantytowns. Unlike LA, the bad areas lack paved roads, and are without water , electricity, sanitation, and other city services.

LA just isn't there. Yet. That is, essential services are very far from breaking down, except for law enforcement, which can police citizens and legal residents fairly well, but is shackled (one way or another) in dealing directly with illegals, who are causing a massive crime wave.

Have you ever been to a third world city?

I live in a third world city. And I have been to East LA, Compton, El Monte, Lynwood, Baldwin Park, Anaheim, etc. etc.

LOL. There should have been a warning with that...I was drinking coffee!

South Gate, Cudahy and Maywood is where L.A. is headed.

I was going to mention the Maywood/Bell area. I worked in Vernon 30 years ago and it was an armpit even then. Now it's an absolute cesspool.

Actually I was being a little sarcastic. I live in El Centro, Ca. which is only 12 miles north of Mexicali, Mexico.

If they polled the residents of LA they would most likely find out thata majority would be either embarrassed to be called Americans or insulted.

that a majority would be either embarrassed to be called Americans or insulted.

Street slang for a gringo=huero,/i> means "foreigner" en español.

I’m planning to move soon. It no longer feels welcoming, or safe here.

I hear you! I live in LA and feel like a stranger in my own country. Where are you planning to move, though? It seems to me that the invasion is happening everywhere now.

The liberals live in their own little fantasy land they always assume that other people think just like they do. Its too bad the cheap labor lobby is represented here, and its near treason that they can use the “race card” to silence debate just as the libs do when someone questions their fantasy religious like views.

Is it ok to ask if there are any predominately white cities that are awash with crime? Can anyone think of one?

Nashville, Tennessee.
