i know waht was going on because I have read the reports from those victims, however it doesn’t mean that a blanket policy should apply to EVERY person on the compound! Your lack of logic is staggering.

Sure it should. There's too much history to ignore. What on earth makes you think that all of a sudden things are going to change?

Jeremiah 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

Your lack of logic is staggering.

how can these posts be allegedly filled to the brim with Mormonism if the “official word” is that we’re not even talking about “Mormons” to begin with?

Irony, thy name is Colofornian. LOL! That is so rich! YOU and your ilk bring up mainstream LDS Mormonism on every FLDS Fundamentalist polygamist thread. YOU are the ones who go on and on equating us with them. YOU are the ones who say there's not a dime's worth of difference between our "cult" (your word) and theirs. YOU are the ones who say that the FLDS lies are the same lies as the LDS lies. YOU turn every thread into an anti-Mormon thread, and then you have the gall and temerity to pretend you don't! Ha! YOU are the ones who make it all Mormons all the time...because that's ALL you talk about! You don't comment on other threads at Free Republic. You're not interested in anything NOT related to Mormonism. YOU'RE obsessed with US! You could care less about the FLDS group, except to use them, as a bludgeon to beat US with. You know it, I know it, and everyone who reads these threads knows it.

As for your silly little semantic game, I could care less, and I'm not going to play. I long ago gave up asking people not to call us "Mormons." You're going to call me whatever you want to call me, and you're going to say whatever you want to about me, however skewed it is. Have at it. And, again, I know this shocks you to be confronted with the FACT that we Mormons are NOT a lockstep, groupthinking herd of brainwashed automatons, but I do not "parrot" the prophet or anyone else.

Wasn’t it the case that Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped by one of these polygamist offshoot goofballs to be his second wife?

Not exactly. Her kidnapper was a solitary nutcase, not part of any of these organized splinter groups. He was a vagrant whack-job who hung around Salt Lake City dressed in Old Testament prophet robes and yelled made-up prophecies and condemnations to passers-by.

Just making a point.

The poster earlier in the thread posted a picture that said that the splinter FLDS group had the same founder as the mainstream LDS Church. So, if all splinter groups and offshoots have the same founder as the original sect, then doesn’t it follow that all Christian churches have the same founder, Pope Peter?

It’s twisted logic that makes no sense. That is precisely the point I was trying to make about the nonsensical earlier post.

(typing this one handed)

So sorry that happened to you.

Five years ago, I also had a injury. I found I could use the shift, control, and alt key and got pretty good at it - but I had to do it for work.

No need to hear - thanks for letting me know.

As for the FLDS cult, they are getting what they deserve.

only that i question if any of us would feel the same way if as little factual foundation was used to enter our home

Perhaps, just perhaps, we, the great unwashed, are NOT privy to ALL the information that the authorites do.

The Blind Men and the Elephant comes to mind...

The CPS can act on anonymous phone calls.

Yup - that's what the billboards say.

Ms. Ellis encouraged those who suspect abuse to report it by contacting the CPS hot line, (800) 252-5400.

"You can be anonymous," she said, explaining the families investigated are not told who placed the call. "There are no legal consequences for reporting in good faith.

You forgot the due process argument;

The mass seizure, relocation, and transfer of custody of the overwhelming number of children who were not in imminent danger, all without individual hearings, in a mass rubber stamp cattle call hearing that even the judge who set the whole farce in motion described as a "free-for-all".

The mass presumption of guilt.

The assumption of facts not in evidence

The ambiguous nature, and arbitrary, capricious enforcement of CPS laws themselves

And of course one could mention the needless infliction of additional and continuing trauma by the state on every innocent victim who was not in imminent danger.

I'm sorry such concerns are tiresome to you. As I alluded to earlier in this thread, the general cultural refusal to enforce traditional criminal laws against fornication and adultery as antiquated relics of the past leads to a psuedo-omnipotent, overreaching, incompetent, unrestrained Nanny State arbitrarily trampling over the traditional protections of due process, societal dissolution, and the eventual loss of liberty. The seeds of immorality and "progressivism" are bearing bitter fruit. A people who will not have moral self-government will be governed by tryants.

Cordially,

Yes, and while you are at it, why don’t you send the authorities to all the local head starts and seize all the children whose mothers gave birth before the age of 18.

That is what you are advocating, is it not?

That’s a picture of the judge fishing for some criminals! I think it a fitting theme picture for the FLDS affair.

It's a picture of her fishing for fish in a lake.

YOU are the ones who go on and on equating us with them.

(I think what you're failing to realize, Choosy, is that that with so many mainstream Mormons showin' up on these fundie Mormon threads to be the vocal chords of the fLDS to defend the fLDS, the "equating" is being done quite seamlessly by you Morfolks, thank you)

YOU are the ones who say there's not a dime's worth of difference between our "cult" (your word) and theirs.

Well, while it's true both are cults, it's not that there's not a dime's worth of differences...I'd actually go out on a limb & say there's at least $.11 of a difference. :)

YOU are the ones who say that the FLDS lies are the same lies as the LDS lies.

Well, they do share the same conniving progenitor, Joey Smith, do they not?

YOU'RE obsessed with US!

Well, don't flatter yourself due to your own good spiritual looks. I would say what you're interpretin' as "obsessed with us" is part zeal on God's interest in ya, and part protection re: God's interest in protecting his flock:

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. (Acts 20:28-31)

(I'd say any apostle that spent 3 years, night & day, forever warning the flock with tears--that's about 1,000 days--about wolves who would arise to distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them is a pretty obsessive thing to do, wouldn't you?)

Well, in some cases it was admittedly a rough sort of frontier "justice", but even so, Missouri was made better off for it.
