Getting to Know John McCain [MUST READ!]
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 30, 2008 | Karl Rove

Posted on 04/29/2008 10:07:11 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It came to me while I was having dinner with Doris Day. No, not that Doris Day. The Doris Day who is married to Col. Bud Day, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, fighter pilot, Vietnam POW and roommate of John McCain at the Hanoi Hilton.

As we ate near the Days' home in Florida recently, I heard things about Sen. McCain that were deeply moving and politically troubling. Moving because they told me things about him the American people need to know. And troubling because it is clear that Mr. McCain is one of the most private individuals to run for president in history.

When it comes to choosing a president, the American people want to know more about a candidate than policy positions. They want to know about character, the values ingrained in his heart. For Mr. McCain, that means they will want to know more about him personally than he has been willing to reveal.

Mr. Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, "I told you I would make you a cripple."

No one accused you, or McCain, or the people who will vote for him of being unpatriotic.

But if you believe that he will be anything other than what he has consistently shown himself to be after taking office, I'm afraid you are deluding yourself. John McCain has never been a friend to the Conservatives, and never will be.

Thank you for your service, I am off to sleep. Your choices are Hussein, Rodham, and Nobody. Good Luck.

DJ the base is not coming back as we know it. If we just sit back and let the dems have it, it will be their will. The world has changed in a great way.

The world has not changed one whit. The desires of the leadership have. They attempt to split off the Christians and the libertarians to remove the conscience from the party.

The reconstituted Republican party that is desired consists of Rockefeller elitists governing over 'free trader' ficons, and defcons, free to abandon all that once held them in check and to account.

It is a perilous combination, and cannot be allowed to stand.

According to McCain, Bud Day, as a member of the Swift Boat Veterans and POW’s for Truth, is dishonest and dishonorable.

So it’s only a matter of time before the southwest become apart of Mexico since all 3 candidates plan on giving amnesty to illegals.

If Obama or Hillary win the Presidency, then we are stuck with either one of them for 8 years rather than 4. If McCain wins, we are stuck with him for only 4, and if he picks a good VP choice, then that person will have a definite leg up 4 years from now. That sounds like the better deal, wouldn’t you say? I’d rather have 4 years of McCain than 8 years of either of the other two, plus they both could groom their VP choices to follow after them, giving them a leg up too. Thus we could end up with 8 years of Hillary of Barak, and then another possible 8 years of another Dem that was their VP. Give me McCain over the alternative. I can stomach McCain for 4 years if I grit my teeth and he makes a good VP choice. I can’t stomach either of the two overt socialists we would be stuck with for a whole lot longer if they get in.

John McCain is a true hero, and that isn’t just the sort of platitude assigned anyone who has ever served in uniform.
He really, truly is.
He sacrificed himself in very tangible ways to preserve the lives, morale, and dignity of the POWs held captive along side him in Vietnam.

He could have gone home many times, saved himself so much torture and years of captivity, but he did not. He showed absolute honor and courage.

Not to cheapen this, but it is now important to compare this to Barack Obama’s recent performance.
Obama would not denounce Reverend Wright’s anti-American racist hate speech. He made excuses for it, then said he could not disown Reverend Wright any more than he could disown the black community.

And then he disowned the black community.

Obama finally disowned Reverend Wright, but not because of what the reverend said about his country, but because of what the reverend said about him. Reverend Wright said Obama was just saying what politicians had to say, and that was what finally did it for Obama. As Obama kept insisting in his press conference, Reverend Wright had disrespected him and what he was trying to do with his campaign. It was the ultimate act of self-interest and selfishness.

Comparing the heroism of John McCain to the opportunism of Barack Obama is like comparing night and day.

I just now learned that Barry's full name is 'Barrack Hussein Muhammad Obama,' and from the Canadians - how private is that?

Now THAT's interesting. If that can be confirmed, it might be a death blow.

("Serving has nothing to do with it.”...)
"Only someone who failed to serve his country could make such a cynical statement."

You're zero for two.
And incredibly self righteous, probably pious, and certainly deluded.

Duty, honor, and pride, like heroism, perserverence, and rectitude, are admirable traits...that have nothing in the world to do with crappy politics.

Claiming that not having 'served his country' is requisite for disagreeing with you is an insult to those of us who have and who do.

That’s a killer of a list! (Except for the inclusion of the GOP’s “Gang of 14” masterpiece.)

I have always had the utmost respect for Colonel Bud Day ... he’s one of my heroes! His thoughts and his endorsements go along way in my opinion.

Go campaign for Obama elsewhere.
This is FR, not DU.

Well consider this:

Which is more likely to be stopped by congress?

McCain’s liberal agenda or Hillary’s liberal agenda?

Signing up with global warming and illegal immigrants is going to have serious consequences just to name two.

Republicans don’t have much of a backbone to stop a President in their own party. But they’ll dig in against Hillary.

Oh? What happened to Harriet Miers?

What happened to Bush's "I'll see you at the signing?"
