New Data on Sea Ice Contradicts Media Climate Change Reporting
Newsbusters.org ^ | May 6, 2008 | Jeff Poor

If the Earth has a fever, as former Vice President Al Gore suggests, it's not showing signs of it.

According to Climateaudit.org's Steve McIntyre, global sea ice has actually increased.

"On a global basis, world sea ice in April 2008 reached levels that were ‘unprecedented' for the month of April in over 25 years," Steve McIntyre wrote on Climateaudit.org on May 4. "Levels are the third highest (for April) since the commencement of records in 1979, exceeded only by levels in 1979 and 1982."

That data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) suggests the effects of global warming aren't as dire as some media reports would have you believe. A segment on ABC's March 28 "Good Morning America" warned melting sea ice is endangering the global warming alarmists' favorite mascot, the polar bear.

When Al Gore has conservatives like Newt Gingrich repeating his lies, the facts are becoming more and more irrelevant.

How pathetic when even so-called conservative thinkers are duped by Global Warming Idiocy.

Ahhhhh... but Mr. McIntyre, although the extent of the sea ice is at a record, the ice is "new' and it's "thin." You must have missed Al Gore's memo. They want the "old" ice, not "new" ice!

Lemme think ... the GOP candidate actually co sponsored the 2003 McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act to stop “global warming”.

A pity Johnny Mac didn’t have someone on his staff that could use Google to look up “Solar Cycle 23 Activity”. Turns out that big glowing ball of burning hydrogen at the center of the solar system has an impact on earth’s climate - cooling as well as warming.

And it has to be floating on the sea. The fact that Antarctica has record ice depth on land (and that’s mostly ‘old’ ice) doesn’t matter either.

Yeah, that happens during bouts of global warming. This is actually proof of global warming.

At least that's what I am hearing from the famous world renowned climatologist Mr. Albert Gore Jr.

Anybody can view comparisons for themselves-it is measured by depth determined by satellite:

Well, there's some guy out there who makes a living measuring ice in Antarctica and was formerly a skeptic regarding global warming who says he's never seen the ice decrease as it JUST has in Antarctica. If flatulent herds of cattle, my 7 mile commute to and from the office, making all stops for groceries, haircuts, prescriptions and manicures on the way — never leaving the same street — is affecting penguin paradise, then I don't know what else I can do. Can't afford to replace my 1994 Explorer gas guzzler as even if gas tops $200 a barrel, it would be less than going into debt on a new car I can fit in.

I don't think there's hard science to back up man-made global warming OR cooling. That volcano in Chile has more to do with it than anything else. Who's rapping the knuckles on the Chinese, the Indians, the Russians???? I'm thinking they are far greater offenders than the U.S.

The purpose of this whole business is to rap YOUR knuckles while the Indians and Chinese catch up. If guilting you about AGW serves the purpose, they'll beat that drum as long as they can. If they gotta find a different drum, so be it.

The problems change from year to year, but the solution is always the same.

That's OK, yesyerday CNN’s morning radio show claimed that Antarctica’s ice was at “record lows” (now? - just before winter starts down there, it makes sense that ice is less) and that the winter of 2007-2008 doesn't matter, because we are going to see colder temp's between now and 2015.

That's because the ocean currents are turning colder, you see, and won't warm up until 2015. (Despite the inconvenient fact that ocean waters warm up or cool down BECAUSE of colder or warmer surface temperatures and air temperatures and solar irradiation levels, not CAUSING less radiation!)

Let's see: Cycle 24 - if it ever starts - should be about 11 years long. 2008 + 11/2 = 2013-2015.

But after 2015, Solar Cycle 24 begins to decrease, thus indicating the sun's magnetic influence lowers, causing less cosmic ray shielding, more cosmic ray interaction, more cloud cover, less net solar radiation received on earth, lower overall temperatures.

Solar Cycle 25 has been predicted to be a very low cycle - determined from low levels of deep layer sun currents by NASA.

So the global warming extremists are claiming that we will see lower temperatures from now until 2015 - then greatly increasing temp's after CO2 builds up.

Solar GW theory predicts lower temperatures for a little while before Solar Cycle 24 begins, then a short period of warming temps during cycle 24, then a period of lower temps between cycle 24 and 25, then overall lower temperatures during Cycle 25 - since Cycle 25 has been long predicted to be very, very low activity.

Check my logic: Seems we have a nice, 20 year “experiment” going on that should be able to debunk the AGW extremist positions....

Not that they want to get debunked, or are mentally able to be convinced (converted ?) to another “religion” contrary to their anti_US, anti-capitalist, anti-energy, anti-freedom dogma, or would admit it when they were proved wrong.

Yes, of course. That was implied. A new survey might find more skeptics, in light of Argos, PDO, global temp not rising the last decade, Chilean volcano spewing tons of particulates into the stratosphere, unprecedented southern hemisphere sea ice levels, and so on. CYA will kick in heavy at some point, if this new "trend" continues.

If we are entering a cooling phase because of lack of sunspots, then it is just as important to conserve energy, because it will become ever more expensive to keep warm during longer winters. Shorter growing seasons will also lead to higher food prices.

Yeah, I wonder that too. We’re experiencing distressingly normal spring weather. Seems like it’s been pretty much textbook. We had one nice warm week in April, warmer than normal about 10 degrees, but it also gave us pleasantly warm rain on some of those days. The proverbial April showers were right on the money, and basically I think we’ll have one of those summers like those of idyllic childhood.

Unless of course the Demwits patch up things before they reach Denver. ;’)

The winter here in the Vegas Valley has been long, “cold” and windy. Normally, by March, we are in the 90’s at least once a week. We’re just now getting the 90’s on a regular basis.

The change is usually gradual, but this year, we went almost instantly from cold to “hot.” And the wind had been worse this year than any I can remember in the last 25 years.

Anyone who subscribes to man-made global warming is as stupid as Al Gore. What a whiney piece of baloney he is!

Yesterday I attended a lecture on the global warming issue by a respected solar scientist named Stuart Jordan. He described in detail how the Hadley global climate measuring has been refined and improved over the past few dacades. According to their forecast, this year and next several are supposed to be slightly cooler than the past few years, but then there should be a sharp upturn again. Actually, 50 years ago when I took astronomy and was introduced to the concept of the sun spot cycles, with their 11 year, 22 year and 88 year cycles, I predicted at that time that approaching 2020, we would have some really hot dry weather like that which led to the dust bowl of the 30’s. Of course, the sun could fool us and give us another Maunder or Sporrer Minimum, in which case have fun with your heating bills.
