Obama: "I Will Raise Taxes"

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama flatly promised to raise taxes in a television interview Thursday afternoon.

“I will raise CEO taxes,” Obama told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”

“If you’re a CEO in this country you’ll probably pay more taxes,” Obama said. Obama speculated his CEO tax rates “won’t be prohibitively high, you’ll pay roughly what you did in the 90’s when they were doing fine.”

Obama also said he would eliminate the Bush tax cuts and install what he called a “middle class tax cut.”

Blitzer asked Obama to define “middle class.”

Obama replied, “You know, I think the definitions are always a little bit rough” and said “if you’re making $100,000 a year or less, then you’re pretty solidly middle class…On the other hand, if you’re making more than $100,000 and certainly if you’re making more than $200,000 or $250,000, you’re doing pretty well.”

The CNN interview was the first one Obama has held since Tuesday’s primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. In it, the Illinois senator also discussed his judicial philosophy. Obama, who has delivered constitutional lectures at University of Chicago Law School, said he thought Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “a very sensible judge.” He also hinted he would place special emphasis on civil rights protections when appointing Supreme Court judges if elected President.

“We’ve got to make sure civil liberties are protected,” Obama said. “Because oftentimes there are pressures placed on politicians to want to set civil liberties aside, especially at a time when we’ve had terrorist attacks. Making sure we maintain our separation of powers so that we don’t have a president who is takes over more and more power, I think those are all criteria by which I’d judge whether or not this is a good appointee.”

That's it, Obama. Keep talking.

Let's give him some rope -- er, I mean some room, and see what he does to himself.

How about that.

The commie bastard wants to take more money from those who are doing the most for America's corporations.

And his definition of protecting civil rights is assuring that those who want to murder Americans (in part because they are Marxists economically, just like Osama-Obama) are not treated unfairly.

What an effen scumbag.

This rose never had a bloom. It was covered up with manure.

There they go again. They just can't get it through their heads that folks making between $100,000 and $250,000 are NOT rich ~ they are making more than others, but they're struggling to get their business going so it can compete against the big guys, or they're putting their kids through a college a cut above what they'd ordinarily be able to afford, and that's so their "family" can progress up into the income categories the fat cats like the Kennedy's and Clinton's and Obama's are in.

Guess these wealthy Democrats can't stand new competition so they'll use the power of the state to tax to destroy those right behind them.

That raving left wing lunatic was his answer to the kinds of judges he will appoint. The US Supreme Court will become radical left wing.

Mondale tried that tactic. We know how well that “I’ll be honest - I am going to tell you now that I will raise your taxes” idea worked.

What is a CEO in Obamas mind? It seems to me that his ideas pertaining to raising capital gains taxes will be taxing for everyone. He is already using the word “investment” when he really means “taxes” and bigger government with the only investment going to Washington DC. There is nothing new in Obama’s politics except the big smile. The difference now is the stain won’t be on a blue dress but on the flag.

The Democrats certainly like raising taxes: on oil companies, on individuals, on just about anything or anyone that looks like there might be some prosperity to tax.

I certainly hope that it doesn't occur to the Democrats that the mantra of "Gotta raise those taxes!" is not going to resonate with the electorate. And I think that this is particularly true when these taxes are presented as somehow punitive and retribution for economic success.

You mean Chicago for starters? Pandhandlers there are annoying and bet they make as much money as they would holding a regular job. Cannot stand people begging for money or food. My son was told at Subway that the guy outfront going hungry that was begging was on his 5th footlong sandwich of the day that people bought him and he sold to others.

So he wants to appoint judges like Ruth Bader Ginsburg?

Yep she’s a sensible judge. If you adhere to the ACLU worldview, then she’s a mainstream judge. Remember how Chuck Shumer and company did so much hand wringing that Roberts and Alito were “out of the mainstream”.

Ginsburg and John Paul Stevens are getting old. The next president will likely appoint their successors to the Supreme Court.

Because anyone who breaks $100K before taxes must be some kind of CEO, and CEOs aren’t really people and stealing their money is fair.

Keep the bright ideas coming Hussein.

Welfare is nothing more than a social program to help freed slaves coming North after the Civil War to find work and to provide them with shelter and subsistance until they could become self reliant. It was originally called the Freedman’s Bureau. Like all government programs, it never went away and it grew beyond its original function.

You know the harder I’ve had to work for my money to get ahead the more I’ve come to resent the ideas of men like Obama. I’ve never been compelled by the ideas of the left when it comes to income redistribution. A friend today talking at lunch summarized my feelings pretty well. He and his wife are immigrants from India. They came to the US poor, they worked hard and now several years later they make a good income. He said said that the more that the government has stepped in the middle of when it comes to charity the more it has alienated people from one another. I believe he was right. Do we really need a government that makes it easy for anyone to stay employed at a department store or fast food restaurant?

What we need is a government that respects the sovereignty of the individuals who earn money and their rights to use it and their property as they see fit but interestingly enough consent seems to matter only when it comes to sex in the left’s world view. You can’t be trusted with your money or your property or even your opinion because they know better than you and are kinder than you. They talk about the right bringing up God and mixing it with politics but the difference is that THEY think they seem to think they are God. It is time to send them a message that they are not.
