WTVG -- Crystal Dixon just received verbal notification from UT that she has been fired for speaking her opinion in a copy of the Toledo Free Press. A high-ranking University of Toledo administrator has been fired for speaking out. UT's associate vice president of human resources was put on paid administrative leave about 2 weeks ago after writing an opinion column in the Toledo Free Press. Crystal Dixon just received verbal notification from the University of Toledo that she has been fired. It's all for speaking her opinion in a copy of the Toledo Free Press. Doug Oliver has been teaching for 23 years. Now, for the first time, he says he's afraid to speak out. "All I know is what Dr. Jacobs wrote, and what he wrote sends a very clear message to me that I better be careful about what I say that doesn't align with political views."
University president Lloyd Jacobs expressed his views in an article in the Toledo Free Press. His column followed one written by the University's associate vice president of human resources, Crystal Dixon. Dixon ignited a debate about whether discrimination against gays is different from other forms of discrimination, including race. In her April 18th column Dixon wrote: "as a black woman... I take great umbrage at the notion that those choosing the homosexual life style are 'civil rights victims'. Here's why i cannot wake up tomorrow and not be a black woman." "I disagree with a number of those view points and I stated at least on the face of it. They aren't consistent with University stated values," says UT president Dr. Lloyd Jacobs. Meanwhile, Dixon is out of a job and some faculty members, like Oliver, say it's just because she voiced her opinion. Late this afternoon 13abc spoke with Crystal Dixon. She says her termination is clearly a violation of her 1st amendment right for free speech, religious discrimination, and race discrimination. Now she is pointing the finger at University leadership. "I am an alumnus. I have worked with a fantastic team. I absolutely love the people I work with and I am disappointed in this and disappointed absolutely. Is this a lack of courageous leadership on the part of the unive
File a lawsuit, dear.
I’ll be cheering you on.
I hope Ms. Dixon has called Pacific Legal or Mark Levin of Landmark Legal...This should be an easy case to win and if she won, would be a “wake-up” to learning institutions that have gone so far p.c., so far left that they don’t allow freedom of expression, even by their own instructors.
I had an opportunity to read both articles; the original, and her response.
I thought both were framed in very respectful terms, both pro and con. This is the kind of dialogue that should be at the heart of intelligent debate.
I have several friends who are gay and am disgusted by "blind" hatred towards them; however, as a Christian, I am concerned for the most important part of them, their immortal soul. A person can care for others but not approve of every aspect of their lives; this is not difficult to understand.
How ridiculous that this woman was fired! I, too, hope that she sues.
What an outrage. She is African American and they are treating her like this?? How scary. Yet the elites say it is Bush taking away our rights. What a load of garbage. This might be the way things look under President Obama when conservatives try to speak out.
Don’t you just love watching liberals play their own race and gender cards against each other?
...pass the popcorn.
If no one’s thought of this term before, try this:
This woman is a victim of HOMOFASCISM.
The left and the homo lobby is the modern day reincarnation of fascism. There is no longer any freedom of speech in the USA. We lost it to the fascists.
I read her letter, and she’s wonderfully articulate. Her mistake in today’s fascist academic climate is not only in opposing the gay agenda, but in proclaiming that she belongs to a group for which academia not only allows, but promotes hatred: Christians.

Life in what is fast becoming the Socialist Republic of America.
Elect Obama or Clinton and speed the process......
Elect Obama or Clinton and speed the process...?
...and McCain’s gonna do what...? Appoint three more Souters to the Court?
Art-history professor Camille Paglia and writer Tammy Bruce are both "as gay as a Disney cow", and they call it the same way you do.
Hunter Madsen, writing as "Erastes Pill", and Marshall Kirk, authors of the essay series "Overhauling Straight America" (which they later rewrote with suitable edition for a general audience as After the Ball), made no bones about borrowing Nazi black-propaganda techniques, privileging their own emotions and specialness above any sort of ideas about rational discourse and fair play. This was, after all, for all the marbles. (Researcher Irving Bieber had described that sort of viciousness, that he encountered during his longitudinal study with gay men in the 50's.)
The American Fascist movement is becoming more and more aggressive and confident.
We are just one president and two or three Supreme Court Justices away from being the kind of country where free speech is banned and dissidents are taken away in the middle of the night. The leftist establishment is Stalinist to the core and is working day and night to impose such a "people's" dictatorship.
It is always an entertaining spectacle when socialist, professional victims turn on each other.
She is correct, sodomy is a choice. If these sodomites want to not be discriminated against, stop shoving it in the rest of our faces. Stop having "Gay Pride Parades" and whatever.
My usual slam at these people is; if you have to have a parade to "celebrate your lifestyle" then who you like to go to bed with, is the least of your problems.
Paractically every homo I know, has some other issue that needs professional treatment, yet they get pissed when I tell them that they should seek treatment of their other issue saying that I don't understand the homosexual lifestyle. I understand it just fine. It is the same idiocy that these yuppie biker types.
It would appear that Ms Dixon is, by definition, the victim of a fascist administration. If the action against her is not “suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship” I don't know what is.
