Breaking News: Travisd Childers beats Greg Davis in MS Special Election
CNN | May 13th, 2008 | Self

Posted on 05/13/2008 7:51:36 PM PDT by The_Republican

CNN just reported Childers beat Davis.

Dick Cheney campaigned for the Republican candidate in that district.

GOP ran commercials tying Democrat to Obama and Reverend Wright.

Thrid straight special Election where long held GOP seat is lost.

This in MISSISSIPPI. WOW!

This is not good news by any means.

Which one is Childers? Is he the one Cheney campaigned for?

the Louisiana and Mississippi seats were very close could very well flip back to the GOP in November. Not trying to sugarcoat things, but it’s not the end of the world either.

It looks like we’ll all be wearing Che T-shirts and carrying hammer and sickle banners after November. I guess it’s the “new direction” everyone was talking about. I feel as though I really let down my children and grandchildren.

Pubbies became corrupt and choked the opportunity to lead.

Time to pay the piper. Dems will screw up their turn and the cycle will continue.

Is this another case of a Blue Dog Dem running against a RINO? In that case it’s a draw. Kinda like a choice between Hillary & McCain.

Or for those of us who want to take the risk of not being brainwashed, being imprisoned and sent to our local labor/reeducation camp and gulag. Hope to see some of you there...

This is not good news by any means.

I would feel bad except the GOP isn't what it once was. They are a bunch of earmark loving, corruption tolerating, clowns(see Playboy mag ban on military bases) who don't deserve to carry the mantle of the party of Ronald Reagan. At least the Dems in Ohio are cleansing their party of the embarassments. The current group of congressional republicans, with a few exceptions, need to be voted out of office and the next generation of reformers brought in.

Cheney campaigned for Davis. Childers is the Democrat and the winner.

Childers ran as a conservative Democrat who focused his campaign on reducing taxes, reducing gas costs and improving benefits for seniors - who are an important swing vote in that district.

Childers successfully challenged Davis on his record of presiding over tax increases as mayor.

Also Davis tried to associate him with Reverend Wright, and Childers is a churchgoing Baptist whose actual minister is well-respected locally.

Basically, Davis was a weak candidate who ran an unfocused campaign, and still almost won.

Greg Davis, the GOP candidate, is very conservative and should have been a strong candidate. He was hurt by the national GOP.

Kinda like a choice between Hillary & McCain.

You could scour my posts and see if you find any with a position on McCain as a candidate, or you can take my word that there aren't too many.

So, from that perspective, you're being sarcastic, right? Because that's a really silly thing to say otherwise.

I starting to see why so many “Republicans” decided to hang it up this year “to spend more time with their families.” They’re quitters with not an ounce of fight in them.

I searched for Childers but no thread came up at the time. Sorry. I saw CNN say breaking news on Live TV.

Well, there’s that... and a certain number of them realize they’re (sadly) members of a party that’s increasingly self-serving, interested in government expansion, and — saddest of all — CORRUPT TO THE CORE.

Add to that, stupid and arrogant, and utterly indifferent to those they represent.

Then again, there are a few who hung it up because they couldn’t stomach what the Republicans have become — their ethics are too strong to tolerate the Country Club illegal alien big government lovers. More’s the pity that we the people lost them.

Both major parties have pretty much demonstrated that they A can’t govern and B aren’t to be trusted. Too bad there isn’t a credible alternative. Yet...

“the Louisiana and Mississippi seats were very close could very well flip back to the GOP in November. Not trying to sugarcoat things, but it’s not the end of the world either.”

You have a good point there. As I see it, this doesn’t in any way bode for how well Obama will do in November. You see, Travis Childers is running as a CONSERVATIVE Democrat. He was anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion, pro-gun, etc. It’s a marvel that the Dems are celebrating his victory, because if they had run a true Democrat (like Pelosi or Obama) he would have lost solidly.

If Obama thinks that he’s going to win Mississippi, he needs some serious help. That said, the folks of Mississippi are being stupid. Childers will sell them out somewhere along the line.

Not surprising. The Southhaven area has been changing demographically for the last few years, with transplants from the Memphis area.
