I'll never forget a frigid morning in Springfield: Sen. Barack Obama, elegantly Lincolnesque in a long wool coat, launching his presidential candidacy in the shadow of the old Illinois State Capitol. The echoes of history were almost deafening—not just of Abraham Lincoln, who, like Obama, had been a legislator there, but of the argument over slavery and race that Lincoln had joined there.
On that sunny February day in 2007, Obama seemed to radiate uplift and glorious possibility. He was making a statement: that his candidacy would be the exclamation point at the end of our four-century-long argument over the role of African-Americans in our society. By electing a mixed-race man of evident brilliance, moderate mien and welcoming smile, we would finally cease seeing each other through color-coded eyes.
Well, that argument did not end. He and we were naive to think it would. In our country, uniquely based on and blessed by the idea of individual freedom, the most profound argument always this: who is fully a person in the eyes of our society and law? The Constitution enshrines and protects "persons." But who is one and, just as important, who isn't?
In some ways, as the 2008 presidential campaign shows—and the racially lopsided West Virginia results from Tuesday night remind us—we have yet to fully answer the questions.
A century and a half ago, the American Argument over personhood sparked one of the bloodiest disputes any nation has ever had with itself: our Civil War. But the enduring debate also spawned tremendous social progress and constitutional changes, not just for blacks but for women, gays, lesbians and others. The phrase "We the People" has a far broader meaning than our white male Christian Founders imagined.

Blacks vote for him because they think he’s black. Every poll in every part of every state says this. Now the ‘white vote’ is the issue. Isn’t that like double racism?

How absurd. I didn’t think Fineman was a total idiot until now. Obama is the single most racially divisive figure in American politics since the Civil War. He’s much more powerful than Sharpton, Jackson, or Farrakhan. Obama’s words and actions speak for themselves. He is a hate-filled, extremist who had a knack for changing his identity to cover up his radical hatred of his own whiteness and, by extension, the US (by his own admission, as evidenced by his pseudo-autobiography, Dreams of My Father). He is the Manchurian Candidate.
Newsweek recently accused the GOP of scaring voters since the 60’s. They shamelessly take sides much like the rest of the liberal media.

And if he wins, it’s going to be even worse.
Uncle Jeremiah will never forget it, either. He showed up with his "A" material ready to perform on the main stage, and his arrogant nephew stuffed him in the basement for a prayer with Barry, the lovely and charming Mrs. Barry, and some clown known as Turbin Durbin.
And I suppose we're supposed to believe that the North Carolina results weren't racially lopsided?
I believe we’re witnessing a myth constructed of whole cloth..
Obama is neither the man he says he is, or the man his followers say he is...
I hope they see the man that is, before it is too late.

Isn’t it amazing that they are talking so much about the WHITE vote when they never gave a flying flip about it before boy how times have changed. I have never heard so much about the WHITE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>VOTE before in all my years of voting and that would be since 1978
Rather than tell us we should vote for Obama because he is black, why not tell us what he will do for America?

The media covered for the clintons for nearly 20 years.
Now they are willing to stab her in the back and throw her under the bus. The same emdia that covered for the Clintons is now covering for Obama.
Just as the Stalinists did for 40 years. Socialists lie. Always.
