A British man who was so amused with BBC1’s "Have I Got News for You" that he fell off his couch in a fit of laughter was not so happy when it got him arrested and pepper sprayed.
Christopher Cocker, 36, collapsed on the floor after laughing at a joke on TV, but his neighbor who heard the thud thought something bad had happened and called the police, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.
According to police, Cocker initially was cooperative but quickly became "aggressive" when asked his name and personal information. Cocker tried to shut his door on the officers, at which point he was pepper sprayed through a crack in the door.
Cocker then was handcuffed, arrested and taken to court, the Daily Mail reported. An unidentified police spokesman told the Mail that, given Cocker’s aggression, they acted appropriately.
"Within the circumstances, we feel we used reasonable force," the officer told the Mail.

Knee-jerk reactions aside, what are the peelers authorized to ask under these circumstances?
So this explains it. Remember the story awhile back about the family who was cringing in an upstairs closet while a gang smashed into their house with axes and ransacked the place and the family made several cellphone calls to 911 and were told the police were busy on other calls?
This is what they were busy doing!
Arresting people for laughing!
Now I understand!
That’s what he gets for watching TV and laughing in his own home.
Next time he laughs watching TV, he better provide his personal information to authorities when demanded.

The downstairs neighbor had concerns for the other neighbor. Had they instead been upstairs bleeding to death, there would be no issue.
Just because there was no real problem, doesn’t mean they should be uncooperative with authorities.

It’s the UK. Those people are not citizens, they are subjects. Which means they can be subjected to whatever their masters want to subject them to.
