Big Russ is still alive. What a shame he has to bury his son.

Tim Russert was the one person on MSNBC who actually approached true journalism.

My condolences to the family.

Russert always seemed like the guy you would get if you took Rush and Chrissy Matthews and ran em at each other in a super collider

Whoa. I was thinking he didn’t look that good in one particular video a couple weeks ago. I didn’t say anything because I thought it was bad lighting or something.

That happens more often than is noted. I remember when Gerald Ford was addressing the convention and it seemed to me like he just had a stroke. Turns out later he was having one.

Yep, found this:

During the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Ford appeared "sluggish and sick" on television during a tribute to him. A few hours later, shortly after midnight on Wednesday, August 2, Ford presented to the emergency room at Hahnemann University Hospital, complaining of facial pain.
and it sounds like he didn't receive presidential caliber medical care if you read further, here. I know had I been on a live convention thread at the time I would have posted "somebody get him a doctor"

From the Media Research Center's blog, NewsBusters.org:

MRC President and NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell has issued the following statement:

Whenever I’ve been asked to give examples of a fair, balanced and honest journalist, Tim Russert’s name was the first name that came to mind. This was a view shared by everyone and the ultimate testimony to his professionalism. As a moderator he was in a league of his own, always knowing when to speak and when to let his guests do the talking. As an individual he was an absolute class act, and always a gentleman. The world of journalism is vastly diminished today.

You’re right. Out of all the dinosaur media, Tim was the one who stood out.

PRAYERS UP!

NBC news now has nothing that resembles integrity.

I watched Brokaw give the announcement on cnbc. He barely made it through without breaking down.

Brokaw was also a class guy and yes you have to wonder who wil replace Russert. David Gregory, Brian Williams and Chris Mathews make me puke.

Trying not to be a cynic, but I’m betting that somewhere in Hollywood, some 2-bit Producer is already huring a writer and producer for a “Movie of the Week” about him.

Prayers for Tim Russert and his family. My brother died of a massive heart attack at 51 and never got to walk his daughter down the aisle or see his grandsons. I understand Tim’s father is still alive. There’s nothing worse than a parent outliving their child.

Sorry to hear this, he seemed like the most decent & fairest of the lot of national news figures, and although in the end he played ball with the major networks using their rules, he was truer to the concept of political free speech than the Rathers, Brokaws, Moyers, & Lehrers.

From May 2008:

“In perhaps one of the more uncomfortable moments in recent Meet the Press history, Clinton campaign co-chair Terry McAuliffe insinuated on Sunday that host Tim Russert’s father was dead. He isn’t.”

Big Russ is very much alive.

Whoops! I just assumed he had passed on and that was why Tim did the memoir.

RIP Tim!

No matter what... he maintained a sense of class and integrity....even in the face of the worst in politics....

Rush quit smoking years ago - did he start up again? His weight fluctuates so I hope he gets regular checkups.
