I thought I remembered Russert getting vilified by the uberlefties after that debate for “daring to ask such questions”. Honestly, that was the first thing that came to mind. That’s a pretty sad first thought but speaks to what we expect from the Democrats nowadays.

It's the first thing I thought of too. I genuinely liked Mr. Russert. He always seemed to make sure he was well versed in the history of whatever topic he was addressing, even though I might not have agreed with where he took the subject from there.

But we can't forget the Clinton legacy -- the legacy of death and convictions among those who were close to them, and especially among those who crossed them...

our hell is having F.R. turned into a cesspool like DU.

Hyperbole.

As one long-timer to another, let's not get carried away.

Remembering Tim Russert [Kate O’Beirne]

It seems so wrong to use the past tense about Tim Russert who has been so present in this town for so long. The tributes by those who knew him will acknowledge his work ethic, love of politics, and good humor. I am so very sad at this terrible news having known Tim as unfailingly decent and down-to-earth. He was modest, generous, and kind. He was an institution in Washington, but behaved as though he were unaware of his exalted position. We were more likely to sit around after Meet the Press talking about our families than the latest from the campaign trail. His personal experience was in Democratic politics but he had a lively curiosity and was grounded in Buffalo. He was genuinely interested in everyone’s opinions. My prayers are with his father, Maureen, and his beloved son Luke.

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

Laura and I are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Tim Russert. Those of us who knew and worked with Tim, his many friends, and the millions of Americans who loyally followed his career on the air will all miss him.

As the longest-serving host of the longest-running program in the history of television, he was an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades. Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman. He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it.

Most important, Tim was a proud son and father, and Laura and I offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Maureen, his son Luke, and the entire Russert family. We will keep them in our prayers.

I agree that Russert’s question to HIllary about the drivers license for illegals and Hillary’s subsequent waffling on the question was what started hurting Hillary’s standing in the polls. Russert made sure Hillary did not get away with her usual equivocating, unlike other moderators. I thought that was one of the best moments in this debate season.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — NBC’s Tim Russert, the last prosecution witness in I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s perjury trial, testified Wednesday he did not inform Libby of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity, as Libby has said.

Libby, the former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, told FBI investigators and a grand jury he first learned Plame’s identity from Russert during a conversation on July 10, 2003. He later recanted, saying a note he found had jogged his memory, and that he initially heard the name from Cheney about a month before.

Yes, Tim Russert was about the only credibility they had.

Such a situation usurps credibility concerns IMO.

RIP Tim.

I have always had a soft spot for Russert. Something about him was very likeable and genuine, qualities you rarely see in the media.

RIP, Tim. And my most heartfelt condolences to your family.

I am definitely one of those persons who believes in my heart and mind that the Clintons are nowhere NEAR done with their pursuit of absolute power, but I’m also not a conspiracy theorist.

It is my best guess that this is not Hillarhoid-related.

Russert didn’t seem to be a major Clinton fan like most on that network, and I am sorry for his passing and his family’s loss.

"Could be mistaken, but I thought I heard that they were pairing Keith Olbermann with him, and that it was viewed as a real slap in the face to him. Anyone know anything about this? So Russert’s spot goes to . . . Olbermann now?"

Slim and none. I don't understand why people fear that clown -- he has no cachet at NBC. None. GE hates him. Chrissy gets first call for Meet The Depressed; Gregory always bends over "for the good of the network"; what will be interesting to watch is whether Olbermann gets Hardball in the shuffle, or whether Chrissy's anoited successor Schuster can beat him to the punch.

Rush still smokes cigars.

True, and they're probably not completely harmless, but they're nothing like cigarettes in terms of health.

It may have also been the nail in Russert's coffin.
