HAVANA, Cuba (AP) -- The Cuban boy at the center of an international custody battle eight years ago has joined Cuba's Young Communist Union.

Elian Gonzalez said he will never let down ex-President Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro, according to the Communist youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

Raul Castro succeeded Fidel as president earlier this year.

Now 14, Elian was 6 when his relatives in Miami, Florida, lost their fight to keep him in the United States and he was returned to Cuba in mid-2000 with his father.

Elian had survived a boating accident off the Florida coast that killed his mother, who was attempting to get to the U.S.

Juventud Rebelde says in its Sunday edition that the boy was among 18,000 people who joined the group Saturday.

As one of the Cuban elites little Elian probably has a cell phone and computer too ...while the rest of the Cuban people are living in third world conditions.

Communists still objective to brainwash youth.

It’s not coincidental the youth vote for NObomba. Whatever it takes to fool the young and naive who’ve yet to have a real job and pay taxes, yet still get to vote.

This is a mandatory membership, it’s not voluntary. There is absolutely no alternative, they all have to join (was standard practice in former Eastern European countries).

IIRC, he reached US soil and wa eligible to stay here because of the ‘dry foot’ exception for Cubans. It was his father, as Elian’s sole surviving parent, being sent by Fidel that created the problem and Reno caved in to that.

Thank you, you mango tree lawyer, Greg Craig.

Your two little crooked friends in the Republic of Panama are waiting to win their case too: Crooked ex president Ernesto Perez Valladares wants his U.S. visa back which was lifted for exporting illegal Chinese to the U.S.

You are charging him $2,000,000 for that. He can afford it. He stole the country blind like all other politician in other country around the world do to include the U.S. of A.

Then there is Pedro Miguel González who murdered by gunfire a Puerto Rican U.S. soldier, Zak Hernandez, in 1992.

The question is where is Pedro Miguel González getting the millions to pay your mango tree fees?

The reality is, this mango tree lawyer is thick as thieves with BO. Should BO become president, both Perez Valladares and Gonzalez will get an U.S. presidential pardon.

I would give great weight to that scenario. He's a living propaganda piece -- another tool in the hands of a dictator. He'll wake up someday.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he “went into politics” as he is a national hero. Of course, Cuba will be very different once Fidel is gone which appears imminent.

One of the last times I watched CNN ( this was live on that channel ) and the last time I was ill about what I saw, people being sprayed like cockroaches. At first I thought, well they must be getting some resistance. I then noticed the people were just there and some probably would have got well out of the way if given a chance. When Janet Reno get to hell it's just one more thing she'll burn for.

Whatever law enforcement is, this wasn't it.

BTW whatever happened to the FR send Elian back crowd's ( there were some ) claim that doing such would help other Americans involved in international custody cases at that time? Didn't help them one bit. That crowd got awful quiet later as they hoped nobody would remember.

There are NO parental rights under Cuban law. Children are expressely the property of the state (and the state is Fidel). The mother made her wishes explicitly clear when she died getting her child to freedom. Case closed.

Case closed/Mind closed!

When the mother died, the father is in charge. Parental rights are human rights neither you nor Castro have the right to interfere. Don't you hate it that nobody asked you to vote on the kid's status.

If Castro has no right to the kid, what makes you think you do?

Where were you when this happened ? Because you apparently weren’t there at the time with your woeful ignorance of the situation.

Firstly, what part of “there are NO parental rights in Cuba” do you not grasp ? Children are SLAVES, property, chattel, of the state. Parents have NO say in their children’s lives. Children are TAKEN from the parents to be politically indoctrinated, as Elian has been. You got it ? You have some very peculiar notion that they were all going to be reunited and live happily ever after. That ain’t how it works in Cuba, the Socialist liberal paradise.

The father was ORDERED to retrieve the child for Fidel’s vanity and failure to comply would’ve meant his immediate family would’ve never been heard from again. I remember well their rehearsed Stepford-wife like responses from the “family” wanting the child back on the gulag. It was appalling.

The mother DIED getting her child away from that gulag. She died. Her wishes and actions said it all. You spit in her face denying the ultimate sacrificial act in getting her child to freedom that she made.

For a father to knowingly participate in a conspiracy to bring a child back to such a horrible place was nothing short of evil. He should’ve told Fidel to go to hell.

Oh, and btw, FRiend, Elian was denied due process in our country ahead of a likely judicial ruling approving his stay (Elian WAS here legally and he had a loving family in Florida caring for him, a cousin he was bonding with as a surrogate mother — and ripped away from them at gunpoint in a Gestapo/stormtrooper raid Hitler would’ve approved of). Clinton/Reno weren’t going to wait on something as “trivial” as a judge knowing right from wrong and was following Fidel’s orders. The orders from a psychotic despot whom has enslaved millions and killed untold tens of thousands (if not hundreds) all to get a child that caused him personal embarrassment. Sick, twisted, and evil.

Truth’s a bitch, ain’t it ?

It seems as if Fidel Castro and brother Raul have been taking a special interest to Elian. Elian, 14 who became a teenager December 6th 2007, had to “celebrate” his birthday party in the presence of two “viejos cagalitrosos,” the new dictator-in-chief Raul Castro and Ricardo “Watermellon Head” Alarcon.

It seems as if Elian has a special talent for swimming. He won for his school the 25-meter swimming contest in 2007. He receives good grades and that he is the leader of his student collective at the ‘Esteban Hernandez’ junior high, where he is in the ninth grade.

Elian’s father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, is now a member of the national assembly, the island’s congress that selected Raul Castro as president after his ailing older brother Fidel Castro resigned in February. Being a member of the Communist elite, Juan Miquel enjoys special treatment as we can guess by what information one could get.

It is shocking the level of ignorance on this issue in some quarters still after these many years. They don’t understand that parental (and indeed, individual) rights have a different meaning in a totalitarian regime. “Rights” do not exist.

I thought your case was closed.

You're making a case for no kids in communist countries. Where were you? Why aren't you down in Mexico Cioty stopping all children from getting on the flights to Havana. I guess your morality only extends to kids you can easilly get your hands on.

My peculiar notion is that a kid goes to the surviving parent. Sorry you had to be taught that by a communist, but you should have known that all along. Basic parenting right and responsibility.

Your nanny state attitude would separate the kid and the parent. What the hell is wrong with you?

You're right; the truth is a bitch. A cold one at that.
