HEY, Hollywood, the Media and Musicians. Where's the BUZZ About BENEFITS for IOWA FLOOD VICTIMS?

I'm an Iowan. My feet are dry.. all Praise to God. So, I will say what is on the minds of a lot of Iowans that are busy trying to hold their families together right now. These flood victims are no less worthy of help than New Orleans residents. To totally ignore them is like an elephant in the room. Why are you ignoring us? Are we too humble? Are we too unworthy because we help ourselves and each other? Are we the wrong class? The wrong color? The wrong location? Are we too quiet? Or are we not something that you can exploit politically and monetarily? Hmmm.

The pic in the article shows a hog confinement under water. Maybe they all forgot that the "food" is underwater in the Midwest!

^5 to Jay Leno for the 2 benefits...

Hollyflakes are most likely still donating to a lost cause somewhere else... understand that many Katrina victims are still on the dole three years later...

Of course, they were on the dole before Katrina hit... it's a life-long entitlement that these folks expect.

And, if the contributions don't continue to come, "that's racist".

From an email I received this morning:

Just wondering...

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Louie Farakhan say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear the mayor of Cedar Rapids say that he wants to rebuild a “vanilla” city, because that’s the way God wants it?

Where is the ranting and raving 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

Why the huge cover-up of all you Iowans and Missourians and other ‘fly-over-ites’ shooting at rescue helicopters?

Why are you Midwesterners a bunch of kool-aid drinkers…when you’re told that danger is approaching and you need to evacuate your homes for your family’s safety, you guys go and…well… leave.

Why do I know that in 2 weeks we will never see anything on Iowa or Missouri and the rebuilding and the people getting on with their lives on the liberal news.

Bless all the folks affected by this disaster, and know that the thoughts of millions of Americans are with you. Some real Americans do notice the differences…we have been discussing them privately. For some reason none of this can be talked about publicly.

" ... HEY HOLLYWOOD, THE MEDIA AND MUSICIANS!!! When are the benefits going to start firing up? Inquisitive Iowa minds want to know."

Excuse me?

Inquiring minds already know ... The Left is against anything American, and for anything that will tear Her down.

You, my friend, are undoubtably an American.

I, and every other American, wish you well, and a speedy recovery.

The Hollywood types would be more likely to go after the farmer for letting his hog operation pollute the new, pristine “wetlands”.

Some estimated there were 30,000+ hogs in the bottoms and they got all but about 1,500 hauled out. The rest were let go to try and make it..some did.

It was a massive undertaking to find somewhere that would take them all. But farmers up to 200 miles away were taking them in.

All I have heard is from my church, and from the local school district. Both are gathering materials for you. The school says it is for Cedar Rapids. The church is more general.

Thanks everyone. Like I said..we are on higher ground. It’s just hard to see everyone so scattered and without their homes. And if ya go talk to them..its’ “hey, that family over there needs something more than we do..go help them first.”

My Iowa neighbors take my breath away. And yes, Oakville is very much under water.

I get emailed news alerts from the Humane Society of the U.S., and they haven’t said a thing about this (grin).

Of course these hogs are meat, and they don’t believe in eating meat, so that may be it.

They are using the floods to raise money, though. They said if you send them some money they’ll save some dogs and cats (probably throw the local shelters a few crates, you know, as props for the photos they’ll take of their “rescue” efforts).

Sharon Stone commented on this recently. I believe she said “Is this karma? When you’re a red state, do bad things happen to you?”

I know an old guy who, in his youth, lived in the area. He noted some cornfields that flooded so frequently that they could be confused with rice paddies.

He also noted that there was never any serious effort to do anything about it.

When he moved out West to Phoenix, he made sure to get land on high ground away from the Salt River, which had been dry for 70 years. A decade later it had its first flood, which destroyed many of the buildings foolishly built in the river bottom. They said it was a “hundred year flood.”

A few years later it flooded again. This time they said it was a “five hundred year flood”. Then it flooded two more times in ten years.

That was enough for the Arizonans. They channelized the river bottom so much that a full dam would have to break to flood out of the river bottom again. And they didn’t care that it might be another 100 years before the next flood.

He said that was the difference between Iowans and Arizonans.

Are we the wrong class? The wrong color?

Even if you didn't see it on TV, most of the people harmed in the Katrina floods were nice white folks like you probably are. What's the difference between them and you?

For one thing, in our case, the federal flood control structures failed -- because of poor design and construction, as admitted by the Corps of Engineers in sworn testimony before Congress. Almost all of the recent flooding has been from levees being overtopped -- which never happened in NOLA. Levees are not designed to be structurally sound once they're overtopped.

Second: $Billions of the "aid" received in NOLA consisted of flood insurance payouts. We pay premiums for that coverage, and have for years. What percentage of the current flood victims are policyholders? Not as many as here, friend -- no place in the US has a higher participation rate.

That said -- I don't begrudge whatever aid is sent your way. But spare us the crybaby complaints.

That’s because the people in that part of the country have a set. They don’t wait for the gubmint to hand them out.
