"The essay chillingly describes what Dr. Camayd-Freixas saw and heard as he translated for some of the nearly 400 undocumented workers who were seized by federal agents at the Agriprocessors kosher plant in Postville in May.
Under the old way of doing things, the workers, nearly all Guatemalans, would have been simply and swiftly deported. But in a twist of Dickensian cruelty, more than 260 were charged as serious criminals for using false Social Security numbers or residency papers, and most were sentenced to five months in prison."
"Dr. Camayd-Freixas’s essay describes “the saddest procession I have ever witnessed, which the public would never see” — because cameras were forbidden.
“Driven single-file in groups of 10, shackled at the wrists, waist and ankles, chains dragging as they shuffled through, the slaughterhouse workers were brought in for arraignment, sat and listened through headsets to the interpreted initial appearance, before marching out again to be bused to different county jails, only to make room for the next row of 10.”"

This whiney, leftist drivel is enough to make you throw up. Sure, let’s just escort them courteously to the border and bid a fond farewell. Then we can watch as they walk back over the border the following evening. Perhaps 5 months in the slam will make these people think twice about that return visit. Nor has this tearjerking hack bothered to mention how much these poor mistreated babies have cost taxpayers in free medical care, welfare, Social Security and on and on. Never mind the costs involved in tracking them down, running them through the legal system, providing them with attorneys and transporting them back to Mexico. There is no more dependable purveyor of hypocrisy and shamelessness than the NY Times.

Bingo, the theft of citizen identities was so blatant it could no longer be ignored. Say, what happens if an American in Guatemala or Mexico (or any derivation thereof)assumes anothers identity in order to work, anyone know?

The supply of SSN by health care providers has become a new threat. Workers record the numbers and then check back with the victim and family to see if the victim has deceased and the number can be safely used. So if you get a call about the health and welfare of a family member from a health care provider..they aren’t worried about their welfare. They are wondering if the number is safe to use.
Well, cry me a river. Does this editor think about what other countries in the world do with illegals?

I’m sorry, but how is that cruel?
If I used a false SS# I would fully expect consequences of that nature.
Especially people who stole someones identity by using their SS#. That should get about 25 years in prison.

Two points.
1. The old way sounds good. The sooner that ILLEGAL aliens are removed from the Country the better it is for everyone including LEGAL aliens.
2.What is cruel about chatrging serious criminals with serious charges? Using false and stolen social security numbers is a SERIOUS crime.
Only the American-hating NY Times editorial board would consider it cruel that people who falsify social security numbers are prosecuted as criminals.
