I don’t get it.
How is it cruel to try and convict people who are breaking the law?
They're law-abiding Illegal Aliens, y'see.
Wonder if these guys would like having their SS #'s stolen so the poor Guatemalans could work.
And it really is cute how the editors managed to blame the whole thing on the Bush administration.
This whiney, leftist drivel is enough to make you throw up. Sure, let’s just escort them courteously to the border and bid a fond farewell. Then we can watch as they walk back over the border the following evening. Perhaps 5 months in the slam will make these people think twice about that return visit. Nor has this tearjerking hack bothered to mention how much these poor mistreated babies have cost taxpayers in free medical care, welfare, Social Security and on and on. Never mind the costs involved in tracking them down, running them through the legal system, providing them with attorneys and transporting them back to Mexico. There is no more dependable purveyor of hypocrisy and shamelessness than the NY Times.
G. Carlin on hyphenation: “Pick a %@#$%ing name, Lady.” lol
Jesus,Mary and Joseph.....get them out.Get them *all* out.Don’t kill them.Don’t torture them. But *do* get them out!
But perhaps not as profound as the difference between education and indoctrination.
This event has really kicked the rock from atop the illegal problem here in Iowa, and lots of the bugs are unhappy with the sunlight... including Herr Doktor Professor.

Well, cry me a river. Does this editor think about what other countries in the world do with illegals?
>But in a twist of Dickensian cruelty, more than 260 were charged as serious criminals for using false Social Security numbers or residency papers, and most were sentenced to five months in prison.”<
I’m sorry, but how is that cruel?
If I used a false SS# I would fully expect consequences of that nature.
(Under the old way of doing things, the workers, nearly all Guatemalans, would have been simply and swiftly deported. But in a twist of Dickensian cruelty, more than 260 were charged as serious criminals for using false Social Security numbers or residency papers, and most were sentenced to five months in prison.” )
Two points.
1. The old way sounds good. The sooner that ILLEGAL aliens are removed from the Country the better it is for everyone including LEGAL aliens.
2.What is cruel about chatrging serious criminals with serious charges? Using false and stolen social security numbers is a SERIOUS crime.
Only the American-hating NY Times editorial board would consider it cruel that people who falsify social security numbers are prosecuted as criminals.
“But in a twist of Dickensian cruelty, more than 260 were charged as serious criminals for using false Social Security numbers or residency papers, and most were sentenced to five months in prison.””
Yes, and an American citizen would do a lot more time for the same CRIME.
And under the old way, 90% of them would have come right back, and the greedy owners of that factory would have simply replaced them with more illegal criminals, pocketing the money that should have gone into bigger paychecks for American workers! The new way sends a big damn message to Guatemalans that they need to come here legally or not at all, and it sends a message to the meatpacking industry that we are fed up with this business making millions off the backs of exploited illegal workers!
We've had some threads here in the past about this plant. There were plenty of American workers available and willing to work there, but not for slave wages. All the other meatpacking plants that have been raided have also managed to stay in business, but they have had to increase their wages to find legal workers. Why does the New York Times think something is wrong with that???
well, to truley enforce all immigration laws, to deport all illegals, one would need to create a police state, in effect.
Something just ain’t kosher about this “professor”.
I would get prosecuted for identity theft. Why should an illegal alien Guatemalan get to skate on that charge and be merely deported?
After their five months in jail and deportation I hope word spreads in Guatemala not to come here
Putting their illegal asses in jail for violating our laws sounds like Change I can believe in.
