Newark, NJ, mayor calls for limits on handgun purchases

Newark Mayor Cory Booker will hold a press conference Monday afternoon, calling on the state Senate to pass a bill that imposes a barrier on intrastate handgun trafficking. The bill has already passed the Assembly. The legislation would limit the number of guns an individual can buy to one a month. Gun-control advocates argue the bill would prevent straw buyers from making bulk purchases and selling them on the streets to people who cannot pass background checks.

The press conference will take place at 2 p.m., at Elwood Park, located at Elwood and Summer avenues in Newark's North Ward. The location is the site of a recent shooting at a Barringer High School graduation party, which left one student dead and another wounded.  Bryan Miller, executive director of Ceasefire NJ, a gun control advocacy organization, will also attend the press conference.

Yawn.

Better raise those taxes again in the People’s Republic of NJ to pay for all of the legal fees for that long term loser.

i have to laugh at these judges and politicians who think that a piece of paper will protect the woman who was threatened. What they should do is issue the woman a gun to protect herself.

a barrier on intrastate handgun trafficking = Infringement

limit the number of guns an individual can buy to one a month = Infringement

Registration requirements = Infringement.

Carry Permit requirements = Infringement.

FOID card = Infringement.

FFL requirement = Infringement.

BATF existence = Infringement.

“undue burden” = Infringement (any burden is undue).

Heller = just the first step down a long road back to Freedom.

$64,000.00 question?

Besides law enforcement, is there such a thing as a legal handgun in Newark?

As 'gun friendly' as Virginia is, (comparitively speaking) one is limited to one gun per month also.
So, just read that to be the law says you have to buy one gun a month.
Like 24 hrs in a day, 24 cans of beer in a case. Do the math and arrive at your own conclusion.

New Jersey Democrats are annoying. Come to think of it, so are New Jersey Republicans (the elected ones).

One gun a month? It’s hard enough to convince the wife to get one every two years. These politicians are crazy, unless they also intend to incorporate a handgun purchase tax credit into the Federal tax code. That would be helpful.

Yes....but no one actually owns one.

In my opinion, we are at most a year away from massive civil disturbances.

If nothing else, that may serve to quiet these yahoos down for awhile.

If I lived in God-forsaken new-frickin'-jersey, or any other such left-wing hell-hole, I'd BUY 1 GUN A MONTH.

12 NEW GUNS PER YEAR.

That's 10 or 11 more than I buy now!

This isn't grief. This is either denial or delusion, IMHO.

Gun Laws are only followed by those that really need one !

Criminals do not follow laws as you and MOST here well know !

Socialist Polidiots need too get their chains yanked by the a deluge of lawsuits based on the heller decision........the threat of breaking their seditious piggy bank is all that will stop em IMO.

It’s one handgun purchase a month.

You could still get a Mosin Nagant or 3 a month, along with your choice of shotgun.
