WASHINGTON, July 14 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, on Monday rejected a call by U.S. President George W. Bush to lift a moratorium on offshore oil drilling.

Bush announced on Monday that he lifted the executive branch's restriction on offshore exploration, saying only Congress stood in the way of opening up America's untapped oil riches.

If Americans are still paying $4.11 average a gallon by November it will happen.
The whole mortgage mess can in part be traced back down to the price of gas. If someone is paying $300 more a month in gas then that's $300 difference in what may have been their mortgage payment. Got to keep their jobs though even if they lose their houses.

Good. Let the Dems “come out of the closet” so-to-speak, and publicly state they are against drilling. This is a winning position of the GOP if they are smart enough to push it.

I don't think Obama is going to flip on this one and that maybe the issue that nails him.

Why does Congress permit offshore drilling off the coasts of Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama?

Is it somehow safer there than anywhere else?

Or do they just hate those particular states?

None of those states, by the way, oppose offshore drilling.

I just called his Senate office and asked the staffer to ask McCain the exact same thing. Let’s hope he will listen to the people now, the Democrats have shown today how little they care about the average American.

Don't the voters drive cars in Nevada? Harry Reid should pay on election day.

I haven’t lowered my gas budget yet. However the distance I am able to go is greatly greatly reduced. I only drive to work now and my fishing gas has started coming out of my fun money budget. Another $.25 and will either have to cut into other budget items to pay for work gas or I will literally not be able to afford to drive to work one day a week. Public transport in my city is an absolute joke.

Nevada actually has it worse. 75% of their revenue depends on tourism and if people can’t afford to get there then they go bust.

They should, but they are too concerned with being friends. They seem to not want to hurt any one’s feelings. After all, they loved to be liked.

Too bad we won’t have a candidate who is for it running in November. McCain is a global warming alarmist who pee’s his pants at the thought of any confrontation with any social group.

He doesn’t want to offend anyone...remember that.

“reid rejects bush call to lift drilling moratorium...”

translation: “reid insists on continuing drilling moratorium and depressing american economy-states it is necessary for democrat gains in november...”

(democrats and the exercise of power-scu&bags in action.)

IMHO

Look for drilling offshore.....soon.

Can't wait.

I just drove through Palm Springs, CA and saw what must have been, at least, a thousand or more acres being used for a windfarm. We just laughed at what an eyesore and waste of prime real estate. Plus, we were convinced they were actually using more energy than they were generating! Some areas were going while others were perfectly still...

Didn’t the Rats, just a week or so ago, tell the Prez that he should rescind the exec order, rather than telling Congress to basically do the same? Does anyone recall that?
