The Obama campaign has issued a new statement blaming the Pentagon for Obama's controversial decision to scrap visits to U.S. troops and Rammstein Landstuhl military bases in Germany on Friday.
Der Spiegel initially reported this morning that Obama had cancelled the visits without reason. Then as word spread through the political world after the story was first posted at Free Republic, Obama's campaign issued a statement saying Obama thought it would be "inappropriate" to visit the troops while on a campaign trip.
After the McCain campaign issued a statement upbraiding Obama for snubbing the troops saying that it is never inappropriate to visit troops, Obama's campaign issued a new statement blaming the Pentagon:
"We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event. Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perveived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go," Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, USAF (Ret), Obama spokesman.

I can understand his excuse now. Funny how if John McCain were to visit injured troops no one would see it as propaganda. I wonder why?!?

Rather than simply tell the aide to stay behind and go accompanied by senatorial staffers the haloed one bowed out, That’s from a source to NRO from USAF Germany.
Nice try, Major General Gration (ret.)... Where’s attribution to anyone at the Pentagon? If Obama can visit troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and visit the wounded at Walter Reed, why wouldn’t he be able to visitthe wounded in Germany? No, he was working out...

I’m an Air Force vet (1970 - 1974), and I am embarrassed for my Air Force that this rebrobate general officer, Scott Gration, once wore the blue.
He was intending to go quietly, without fanfare, and really pay his respects to the troops...

My thought exactly, but then, except for a staged photo op, Obama dissed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan also.
Kind of like when Pelosi and the EX-Marine Murtha came to “visit the troops” in Jan of 2007, they pointedly ignored us Soldiers and instead went into conferences with the Dept of State and promptly told the world the US was losing the war without ever leaving a two block area of the Green Zone.
AQ and Al Jezzeria promptly parroted them and renewed some moral among the islamofascists.... Till the surge fully hit.

I read here the visit was canceled because a campaign worker wasn’t allowed to go along. That makes more Obama-sense (new word, can be interchanged with “nonsense”)

There is no doubt that Obama had his fill of military on this trip. He has got to be totally uncomfortable around the military with his cut and run surrender monkey mentality. The photo ops around the military is too risky with all the faces of soldiers who are unenthusiastic around him.
My guess is most of those guys would've hurt themselves trying to pull a reverse Gen. Patton on Barry Obama.
This and after the snub of the troops in Afghanistan doesn’t look good at all!
Whatever; he gets faint at the sight of blood. He admitted this at a hospital in Iowa and MO.
I would be REALLY frightened if he wanted to make a stop at Bayreuth.

So when it comes to securing the country he said he will not listen to the Generals because he has a much broader vision and they are just there to get his job done.
Now when he is advised not to make something a campaign stop he suddenly is all obediant to the military.
