Adventurer Steve Fossett 'may have faked his own death' Round-the-world flying adventurer Steve Fossett may have faked his own death, investigators have claimed. By Chris Irvine Last Updated: 12:22PM BST 27 Jul 2008 Fossett, a friend of Virgin boss Richard Branson, and the first man to fly non-stop round the earth in a hot air balloon, went missing last September when his final flight in a light plane over the Nevada desert went missing. However, Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive. She said: "I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found. "It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."

most of what you say is true..however i’ve seen men that would rather face a charging grizzly bear unarmed than their own wives...
The burden is on those who assert that he did this for financial or marital relations to provide some evidence of problems in that area.
I don’t think he faked it, although I guess I could become suspicious. I can come up with a million reasons why he might fake it. He became insane. Aliens from outer space convinced him to do it.
None of that is the least bit evidentiary. Those that think his death was faked will have to do more than come up with possibilities backed by no evidence at all.
but does it really matter in the long run? it’s fun to speculate on what could be.. I can’t prove God exists in a way that would satisfy non believers.. not everything can be proven that is true. If he is a hero to you, I don’t think anyone is trying to put him down.. stranger things have happened, and nearly anything is possible..
what? No pictures of the missing money! You sir... are a fraud!
I wouldn’t put Fossett in my hero category, although I do admire him for being an adventurer. To be a hero, he’d have to be doing something for someone other than himself, and I don’t know that he did.
I have an instinctive reaction against speculation that he’s manipulating us simply because we’re unable to find his body. I don’t think that’s fair.
Doesn't anyone remember what happened to this man? I'll bet Fossey watched this episode before he went flying.
Interesting, thanks!
You’re welcome, M. Dodge Thomas.
Fossett would have had the means to better fake his death than simply “cannot find the plane.”
“Im looking for Fossett to show up on season 5 of LOST”
Now that is funny!!!!
BTW the altitude is about 8500 feet. Tricky drafts for a small plane.
The other thing is it means I have to break my rule and go to Kalifornia more than once a quarter (went to Sac two weeks ago).
Wow! Got your heads up from out of the blue. I have been agreeably surprised at the knowledge out there from Freepers on this particular case. Knowledge that seems to indicate that the odds are against a quick successful search.
Well you are closer than the vast majority of us and good luck.
"I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found. "It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."Good, right, that's why you missed those six planes during the previous six-plus searches.
???? Not sure where the “Telegraph” is coming from...but they have a wreck site with his plane, drivers license and bones with a DNA match:

Oops...just saw the date...thread resurrected from 2008.
Bones near crash site are Fossett’s, officials say
