Virginia Illegal Immigration: Crime skyrockets in 1 county, plummets right next door
World Net Daily ^ | July 27, 2008

WASHINGTON – One of the wealthiest counties in America reports crime skyrocketing by 22 percent in the first quarter of 2008, while its neighbor saw crime plummet by 19.3 percent in the same time period – coinciding with a get-tough policy on illegal immigration.

Prince William County in Northern Virginia, a bedroom community for the nation's capital, made national news late last year with a crackdown on illegal immigration that supervisors believed was triggering higher crime and lower living standards.

Prince William County reported a 19.3 percent decline in crime, with chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Corey Stewart attributing the downturn to the hard line the county has taken toward illegal immigrants.

"One quarter doesn't tell us a lot," said county police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings. "It shows us where they may be some trends developing."

If I ever see what I think are illegals pilfering faux red ruby slippers at the local Payless, I’ll look the other way. Otherwise, they can return home the same way they got here.

“Otherwise, they can return home the same way they got here.”

I don’t see the problem.

Thanks for the ping, Silvie!

It's Connelly's fault! And Bush's fault too!

Problem with the equation is that Fairfax is a doggone expensive place to live, and PW county isn't.

Fairfax has been vigorously enforcing the "no more than 3 unrelated individuals" law, and that by itself drives illegal aliens out of the jurisdiction since it takes more than 3 of 'em paying rent to afford Fairfax.

All the "planned for illegals" rooming house expansions around the county have gone bankrupt and are being foreclosed.

There's been a decided reduction in the number of illegals seen around the county this Summer, and malls report that the number of illegals shopping there has fallen off substantially ~ they're not even hanging around the parking lots now (although a decidedly darker crowd with "do rags" has been taking up the slack at certain locations, but that's a special market).

Which leads to a good question about who is doing the robberies?

My money is on professional home robbers who migrate around the country. With construction in the dumps, and few pick up jobs available for spot cash income I'm just going to guess that the Murpheys from South Carolina and the Williams Clan are doing the hits.

We're pretty sophisticated these days and know the difference between immigrants, all of whom have visas that entitled them to work and to have green cards, and illegal aliens.

Illegal aliens are really no different than a tourist without a visa.

The law requires tourists, etc., (temporry visitors) to add any children born here to their visa, which means, of course, that the kiddies aren't considered citizens ('cause citizens don't need a visa to visit America). We have several million folks wandering about whose mothers misinformed them that they were citizens. What's really going on is their mother's are still waiting on their visas.

Be a good idea for the government to instantly issue a tourist visa to each and every illegal alien who is caught, and start adding their babies to it.

That way when we finally get around to sending them back home they take their kids with them.

Latin America is beautiful, with lots of natural resources, perhaps if they protested and demanded their rights in their home countries like they do here, things would change.

One would hope.

Unfortunately, it seems to be easier just to come here and try to turn this country into the same hell-hole they left.

They are no longer drywalling, painting, laying carpet, landscaping, etc..

And you expect us to have sympathy or empathy for them when they stole those jobs from Americans to begin with?

This is a tragedy. A human and economic tragedy.

You right, but it is of their own making. Why is it not a human and economic tragedy that they have displaced millions of U.S. workers?

And then some wonder why Hispanics lean toward the Rat Party.....{{{SIGH}}}

Your compassion is admirable.
Your logic sucks.

9 out of 10 hispanics I know personally (I am hispanic myself) both immigrated here legally, and do not base their political affiliation on cultural origins.

The ones that flock to the Rats simply know where the free cheese is...

Are you really that ignorant? Or, do you just play that role here on FreeRepublic?

95.5% employment in a country of 280 to 300 Million people is considered FULL employment.

Nobody stole anyone’s job, Sparky.

Like Casey Stengel said.....”You can look it up!”

Excuse me????????

And what in my post deserved such attack?

My husband and I know the construction industry, I do know what I’m talking about.

You live in a major metro area, employment is far different there than in rural areas.

d just how many good Freepers would steal and/or break some laws when you are homeless and hungry and out of work?

They [illegal aliens] broke the law before they were homeless and hungry and out of work, i.e., just by entering this country.

ROFL! And you say that MY logic 'sucks'? Who said they based their political affiliation on cultural origins. IMO, they base it upon where the hate is coming from.

You don't read anywhere....nor hear anywhere where liberals are as hostile toward illegal immigrants the way the howls come for the fringe Right.

You're not helping the GOP in any way with your phony, "Rule of Law" argument.

Laws that aren't enforced, are really valid laws, IMO. The image you portray is not the least bit flattering....so please....keep it up. If you dare.

Some form of amnesty is coming...whether it's McCain or Obama.
