Mysterious crop circles materialize near northwestern Minnesota town

FOSSTON, Minn. — The first reports of something amiss in the wheat fields east of here came early Sunday from barking dogs and bawling cows, but no livestock is missing — no people, either — so locals seem inclined to doubt that alien spaceships made a stop at Dean Sorgaard’s place.

Still, after a UPS driver passing through the area relayed sightings of mysterious “crop circles” to Fosston Mayor Jim Offerdahl, the mayor drove out to check for himself.

“I’m no expert,” Offerdahl said, trying to sound both skeptical and open-minded, “but either somebody was out having some fun or we were visited by someone from another galaxy.”

Landowners in three locations within about 10 miles of Fosston reported finding circular depressions in wheat fields over the weekend, large, intricate and symmetrical patterns suggesting — or designed to suggest — the landing of alien spacecraft.

At the Sorgaard farm, about six miles east and a little north of Fosston, the largest circle in a steeply sloping field of wheat had a diameter of 150 to 200 feet. “Dead in the center, there’s a little circle, a hole, like they could have had a rod or something in the ground as their center point,” Offerdahl said.

Looks like there is a Fibonacci progression on the sizes of those spheres.

The Arecibo Message

Before it was transmitted toward M13, the author of the message, Frank Drake, first beamed it on paper to Carl Sagan over lunch at the faculty club at Cornell University. Prof. Sagan quickly figured out almost all of the message--can you? (This is not an idle puzzle--consider that when Frank Drake handed the message to Carl Sagan the two had known each other and collaborated on various projects for more than a decade, and thus shared a context which would help in decoding the message. If you're seeing this for the first time, you may genuinely learn something about the difficulty in establishing communications with a truly alien being by trying to figure out what Frank Drake so earnestly encoded into the bits of this message.) ...

'CROPCIRCLE' ARECIBO MESSAGE

ARECIBO RESEARCH

...This is where a slight puzzle becomes visible. By performing the steps described above, the literal translation of the original pulses is on the left of figure 3. However, the image printed in a couple of my books is that shown on the right of figure 3. This is an exact left-right mirror image of my decoding. I suspect that this is possibly an error which went un-noticed when the book went to print - although I have checked two books which both depict the same pattern as shown on the right of figure 3.

Try doing THAT with piece of string and a stick...

Nope. I'd need to dust off my Clone-o-matic 6000 to pull off something like this... Not nearly enough hours in a day right now.

Might be the kinder thing to do to ask the mod to delete that post and repost without the hotlinks.

“Mysterious crop circles materialize near northwestern Minnesota town”

It’s amazing how you can mess with peoples minds just by using a length of rope and 2 people.
People in Minnesota will fall for anything.
Good to be home though...

It looks like the aliens were playing with Spirograph in the 1960s and 70s like the rest of us.

The Arecibo Message in the field was a mirror image - because it was a mirror image in the book it originally appeared in. The data in the message was tampered with. (It's not an Alien CoLB, LOL!)

From 1992. 'Old Sarum Crow' Cropcircle.

International Meteorological Symbols.

No way some of the larger more complex circles done verifiably in 1 or 1-2 hours

can be done by boards and string and a couple of drunks in that time.

And the scientifically verified differences between the non-hoaxed and the hoaxed also rule such out.
