Pelosi: Bush Drilling Proposal a Hoax Unworthy of Serious Debate on Gas Prices
Marketwatch.com ^ | 7/30/08 | Speaker of the House Nacy Pelosi

Posted on 07/30/2008 12:59:11 PM PDT by DallasBiff

Last update: 2:06 p.m. EDT July 30, 2008 WASHINGTON, July 30, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to remarks by President Bush on energy this morning at the White House: "The President knows, as his own Administration has stated, that the impact of any new drilling will be insignificant - promising savings of only pennies per gallon many years down the road. Americans know that thanks to the two oilmen in the White House, consumers are now paying $4 a gallon for gas. But what Americans should realize is that what the President is calling for is drilling as close as three miles off of America's pristine beaches and in other protected areas. "The President has failed in his economic policy, and now he wants to say, 'but for drilling in protected areas offshore, our economy would be thriving and the price of gas would be lower.' That hoax is unworthy of the serious debate we must have to relieve the pain of consumers at the pump and to promote energy independence. "Today, the New Direction Congress will vote on legislation to bring down gas prices by taking crucial steps to curb excessive speculation in the energy futures market. The President himself could lower prices by drawing down a small portion of our government oil stockpile, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. SOURCE Office of the Speaker of the House

Every time the topic of gas prices comes up and some idiot starts blaming the “big oil companies” I ask them if they think that the people running the oil companies throughout the world are stupid. They always answer with an emphatic “NO, they are smart and evil for taking advantage of us by manipulating the prices”. I reply by asking them that if they are as smart and devious as you claim they, then why have they not figured out how to “manipulate” the prices to take advantage of us until today, 2008? This is invariably met with either a blank stare, or a quick change of subject (usually an attack on something about Bush).

The Rats are screwing America and it's a shame that almost 50% of Americans can't see it.

Nancy is barking up the wrong tree, and more than 50% of americans know it...

A Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll released last week revealed that 75 percent of Americans – and 66 percent of Democrats – support immediate oil and gas exploration here at home;

According to a CNN poll, 73 percent of Americans favor more exploration of deep ocean energy resources far off American shores;

A Reuters/Zogby poll conducted in June shows that 75% of American support drilling for oil off shore of the U.S. while 59% support drilling in ANWR.

A Bloomberg News/Los Angeles Times poll from June showed 68 percent of Americans support increased exploration for oil and gas in the United States;

A Rasmussen Reports survey from June showed 67 percent of Americans support deepwater energy exploration – with 64 percent expecting it will lower gas prices;

A recent IBD/TIPP poll shows 64% surveyed support offshore drilling and 65% support oil shale development.

5 cents per gallon

equals

1 dollar per 20 gallon tank.

equals 2 dollars per week for filling two family cars once per week.

equals 104 dollars per year for a family.
104 dollars which could pay for medicine for a child, start a college fund, or go to something other than gas taxes.

Perhaps 2 dollars per week could be the allowance for a 10 year old. Nice going nancy pelosi, you are stealing money from the piggy banks of 10 year olds.

Now try the same analysis with shipping costs where a single penny per gallon can cascade to being profit or loss.

Yeah. The traders say it had to do with unexpected drops in supply. But what do the traders know, anyway?

FWIW, Pelosi's not stupid. She knows she'd lose the debate. So she chooses not to allow one.

There are several other reason Pelosi has taken this moronic stance, none of which are because she doesn't understand economics 101. She didn't get to be speaker because she is an idiot.

#1 reason is she is stalling on a vote, she is giving the magnificent one, messiah Obama cover. How would it look if the Democratic controlled House voted and and passed a piece of legislation that their heir apparent has taken the opposite position ? That would leave him flapping in the breeze, pretty bad place to be if you are already an empty suit Remember he's their ticket to a filibuster proof Senate. If he has no coat tails in November and loses. Power will slip from their greasy tyrannical fingers

#2 She knows there will be no real significantly movement down on oil prices even if they pass drilling because it will be a few years to really see the results, so waiting until the the magnificent one, messiah Obama gets elected to pass drilling is a calculated strategy that just might work

She says that because she wants the situation to get much worse. Then the clowns in congress will suggest a solution - nationalization of the petroleum industry.

The 50% I was referring to is the Rats that will end up voting for Obama even though he's against expanded drilling.

Good chart at 39...

Is there a way to reverse the text color to white or yellow, so it will stand out against the red backdrop?

Thanks

How right you are. W should grow a pair and call her bluff.

Amazing, all the posters here that claim that President Bush "doesn't have a pair".

I defy anyone to stand up to as much as he has, and have nearly the same amount of success.

You ideological purists, who probably are the same ones who protest voted in 2006 that led to this "see you next Tueday" as Speaker, are going to get us nothing in return. And then you'll be wishing for "the President that needed to 'grow a pair'".

Madame Speaker: If you’re so confident in your position, and in the wisdom of your congressional colleagues and the American people, then why are you afraid to allow debate, and a vote? Surely the whole world sees through the Bush/Cheney/Haliburton charade! A simple vote will put this issue behind you, and you can get on with the People’s business.

That’s all right, Ed. It’s still a great graphic, one that our side should use - and often. Thanks for posting it.

The more she speaks, the lower the Congressional Approval Rating goes. Aren’t the Chinese and Cubans planning on drilling off the coast of Florida?

http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/09/news/economy/oil_cuba/index.htm

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/09/washington/09drill.html?ex=1304827200&en=563832ca3aa05e17&ei=5088

(articles from two liberal rags).

But Pelosi and the rest of the DemocRATS have banned US companies from drilling. Completely ludicrous. Pelosi and Reid should be tried for treason for selling out the US and putting our national security at risk.
