FIRST ANNUAL CHRIS PLANTE / WMAL / HAPPY FREEPER NIGHT WMAL Reception

Recently, about 50 WMAL radio listeners were invited to a meet and greet reception with radio host, Chris Plante, at McCormick and Schmick's at Washington DC's new National Harbor.

FReepers Gather

Kburi, Ethel, Silvie, Ms Trooprally, Chris Plante, CeCe, BufordP, Mr Trooprally

Included were FReepers SilvieWaldorfMd, Mr and Ms Trooprally, BufordP, Kburi and Lurkers Ethel and CeCe.

The reception was held outside overlooking the Potomac below the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

It was a grand time with a lot of positive interaction with people on the “same page”. We had a great time exchanging views and discovering that many of us had attended the same events and demonstrations in DC.

We had also had a chance to meet Jerry Klein, WMAL’s “ pet liberal”. Although Jerry has liberal views totally unsubstantiated and contrarian to ours, he is fun to talk with, and even though he was dressed in Johnny Cash black attire (trying to look tough?), he’s actually a nice guy.

After the reception, the FReeper group retired inside to a terrific seafood dinner and discussion.

Thanks to Ms Trooprally for the Photographs. And Silvie for two of her own.

CHRIS PLANTE Meeting Chris is a big deal to us as he is a fresh voice with a sense of humor and is quick with spontaneity.

He is best described as having “radio coolness”. A number of FReepers call his program to express viewpoints.

For those not familiar with Chris Plante, SilvieWaldorfMd provides the following background on Chris:

Chris Plante, joined the WMAL team after 17 years at CNN including nearly ten years assigned to the Pentagon covering the U.S. military and intelligence community.

Chris was assigned variously as Pentagon Correspondent, Senior Producer for National Security Affairs, Military Affairs Producer and as an assignment editor.

He traveled extensively for CNN covering defense related stories from Saudi Arabia in 1990 and Bosnia in 1995, to Vietnam, Indonesia, Africa and the remote corners of the former Soviet Union.

Marching in lock-step with no politician, Chris says his political party is “Practi-crat”, “...because of my distinctly practical political leanings.”

Chris received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio and Television News Directors’ Association (RTNDA) for his reporting from the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.

FAVORITE CHRIS PLANTE QUOTES (a sampler):

“If it weren’t for ‘double standards’ the Democrats would have no standards at all”.

“Pit-dwelling, blood-soaked, sharp-toothed, murder monkeys and troglodytes from Hell” (referring to terrorists).

"The Arab World [and more broadly, the Islamic World] is minting new lunatics just like Japan is producing new Toyota Camry’s!" - 10/29/07.

"Where's the 'peace march' condemning Osama bin Laden and praising the United States? There will be no peace march; there will be no rally. These people are murderous lunatics, waging war against us". Aug/Sept 2006

""Liberal Line #1: 'There is no problem'". "Liberal Line #2: 'We (Conservatives) are the problem'". - 11/9/07.

"Attacks in Baghdad have gone down 77% in the past few months. So now, Baghdad is par with Philadelphia!" - 11/13/07.

“Smelly guys in their underwear, living off their parents’ trusts and living in the basement of their parents’ "McMansions", drinking Fresca with one hand while clicking their keyboards with the other and sitting in front of their computer screens all day and night -- that’s the ‘Moveon.org crowd’ “ - Nov. 2006

Two corrections for the record:

CeCe should be Cee Cee

And Beachn4Fun advises that it is really Maryland’s new National Harbor, not Washington DC’s. Beach is correct!

The National Harbor is worth a visit by all..
