Voight ignites a blog storm in Hollywood (big lib backlash)
Politico ^ | 8-6-08 | Jeffrey Ressner

Posted on 08/06/2008 11:41:10 AM PDT by STARWISE

Jon Voight intended to turn heads with the “very strong points” in his Washington Times op-ed last week (titled: Voight: My Concerns For America ~ Obama sowing socialist seeds in young people). But he probably didn’t expect so many of them to reside in Hollywood.

In a sign of the growing interest in politics this election year, bloggers who normally focus on the entertainment industry are expanding their presence in one of the Internet’s other spheres of influence.

Voight’s piece slammed Democratic candidate Barack Obama, praised GOP contender John McCain, and even repudiated his own Vietnam War protests as the naïve flailings of a deluded youth. It was a stunning bit of self-revelatory memoir from the now-conservative “Coming Home” star.

The political blogsosphere, of course, went ballistic. Then Jeffrey Wells, who runs the movie and pop culture site Hollywood-Elsewhere.com, took Voight to task for his right turn, and wrote that if he were a studio executive he might think twice before hiring Voight for any future film work. “[Voight is] obviously entitled to say and write whatever he wants,” wrote Wells. “But it's only natural that industry-based Obama supporters will henceforth regard him askance.

Honestly? If I were a producer and I had to make a casting decision about hiring Voight or some older actor who hadn't pissed me off with an idiotic Washington Times op-ed piece, I might very well say to myself, ‘Voight? Let him eat cake.'"

Andrew Breitbart was on with Glenn Beck last night .. here's that outstanding segment with great insight and info about Hollywood's blacklisting and subversive tactics, and what Breitbart and other conservatives in Hollywood are doing about it.

"Breitbart: "I've told celebrities who are conservatives to beware when they come out as conservatives. John Voight just is a courageous man."

~~~
Breitbart references Peter Bart in the above segment, and how powerful a player he is in Hollywood, as the editor of Variety. Here's his slam against Voight, upon reading his op-ed piece:
"Personally, I appreciate Voight’s fervor, but worry about his intellectual equipment. I remember that moment in the early ‘70s when Paramount offered Voight the lead role in “Love Story,” opposite Ali McGraw. Voight had just achieved stardom thanks to “Midnight Cowboy” and suddenly had his choice of roles.
As a young production executive at the studio, I was trying to push “Love Story” forward and joined colleagues in trying to interest Voight in the part. However the more we prodded, the more reluctant he became.
He finally blurted: “The character in this movie is a Harvard student. He’s bright. He reads books. I could never be believable as that smart young guy.”
Reading Voight’s op-ed piece these many years later, I realize how right he was.
~~~

So, I guess our voices will be heard in the box office dollars those crazies DON'T GET from us.

BTW, Breitbart is married to Orson Bean's daughter. Always loved the witty Orson, who was actually blacklisted back in the 60's, when he was a liberal. He woke up years ago, and has been married to Alley Mills, the Mom in The Wonder Years, since the early 90's.

Big shocker Hollywood is already firing up the blacklisting machine because Voight doesn’t support their messiah. I’m sure Voight knew exactly what was going to happen and was willing to take the chance of studies blacklisting him. Hollywood needs more like him, instead of the spoiled limousine liberals that permeates most of it like a flesh eating virus.

Thanks for posting the link to Voight’s editorial, STARWISE. I’d heard about it, but hadn’t read it.

Voight’s career has pretty much been dead for a while now - except in movies where his daughter has any control or leverage.

For those that don’t know, Voight’s daughter is Angelina Jolie, born Angelina Jolie Voight.

How do you figure his career is dead? He was in the National Treasure films, Transformers and has a recurring role on 24.

Bean was/is a brilliant comic and had a unique, humerous view back then. I always suspected he was really conservative but played lib to keep out of trouble. Perhaps it backfired and made the transition easier. IIRC he was on the Jack Paar show quite often with Hermione Gingold and Dodie Goodman.

The left is always blacklisting and censoring.

What's her control or leverage over the "National Treasure" series - another one in the making?

I didn’t say his career was buried yet. But it’s pretty much dead and been that way for a while. National Treasure wasn’t a signficant movie series, really.

Either way, though... if it wasn’t dead before, it sure is now. Of course, he’s probably thinking that he’s going to retire anyway, so he’s got nothing to lose.

“He was in the National Treasure films, Transformers and has a recurring role on 24.”

....and soon to star in Zucker’s new conservative blockbuster feature film.

And oh yes, it most definitely WILL be a blockbuster.

I knew that Voight would catch some crap when I read his piece in the Wash. Times....but nothing will come of it in the long run...Hollywood is so self absorbed these days that all they can think about is getting themselves photographed on the red carpet...those people are basically political illiterates....they’re not smart enough to even understand his points.

There aren’t many actors I’m willing to watch, since I avoid the liberals, and I was delighted to find that Jon Voight is a conservative.

Jon and Angelina have been estranged for years. I doubt she has helped him obtain any parts and the one’s he has gotten have been based on merit.
