Just checked Foggy Bottom’s website. The State Dept’s got a travel alert up for China...regarding the earthquake a while ago. Nothing up yet on this latest.

This is a very sad and horrific incident. Think of how many foreign tourists that have been murdered murdered in NYC.

“Thats what you get for holding the Olympics in a 3rd world country”

Yeh. The 1st world has a good track record:

Remember 1972 in Munich (the murder of the Israeli team)
Remember 1996 in Atlanta (the bombing)

I can remember German tourists who rented cars at Miami Airport being stalked and killed a few years ago. Its not germane to China.

I followed the Olympics opening thread last night, and the FReepers who’d been to China spoke of how warmly they were greeted and well treated by average Chinese who seem to like Americans, govt propaganda notwithstanding. It could be this guy was just a nut case. Or, it could be he’s a Chinese Muslim, which groups did threaten to create havoc at the Olympics. The story has yet to unfold (if ever it does). I just feel so sorry for the victims, the family and the volleyball team.

Time to pack the bags and get out.

This type of violence could occur in any American big city sh** hole.

True. But the perpetrator wouldn't commit suicide immediately afterwards.

“I won’t watch one bit of it. Normally I’d tune in for certain events, but not this year.”

I watched part of the opener for the sake of my mother, who used to always watch it, God rest her soul. Other than that, I agree with you.

I also think Matt Lauer should be denied entry into the US for his comment that the Chinese will push and possibly surpass the US in medals. Someone should at least plaster his suitcases with “Kill a Commie for Mommie” stickers & give him the T-shirt. No doubt, HE WAS VERY WELL PAID FOR THAT COMMENT.

After an event like this stabbing, why would anyone watch the Olympics? I guess it’s great to think of having to escort Americans under armed security to see any tourist or other site. Why relatives of athletes and coaches would not be escorted is beyond me. They are our enemies after all, even if we pretend they’re not. They are communist chinese.

“The Chinese government is probably mortified...”

Snort. Ooh boy. That was a good one.

Mortification is a form of shame.

Evil has no shame.

The ChiComs only see it as something that needs to be “spun” like our Democrat party when one of their leading contenders for the White House is found in ANOTHER sex-related bald-faced lie.

I don't plan to watch it either, for the first time ever. I'm disgusted with the whole thing.

There’s always ebay, and http://www.madeinusa.org has other sources you can turn to.

When I need something and everything I see in the local stores is made overseas, I search ebay. They always have something better and often more interesting too. Like if you want an automatic pencil, you can get a bag of Chinese pencils, or you can go on ebay, find an antique silver one made in America, with a 50-year track record of performance, a mysterious inscription, and a stanhope peephole you can look into and see a magnified photo of the National Cathedral. :)

Really.

I’m not watching either and I normally love the Summer Olympics—diving, swimming, gymnastics, track & field.
