Russian troops are indiscriminately murdering civilians and interning them in concentration camps, the embattled Georgian president charged yesterday, as he begged the West not to "appease" Moscow as it did with Nazi Germany.
The startling accusations came as Russian troops blatantly violated a cease-fire by sending an armored convoy through the strategic city of Gori.
The invaders first poured into Georgia five days ago - ostensibly in defense of a pro-Moscow breakaway region, South Ossetia. "What they are doing is exactly what Stalin did to Finland, what they've done to Afghanistan, what in the Second World War Germany was doing to Poland and to other European countries," Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili, a US-educated lawyer who once practiced law in New York, described the situation in Georgia as the rape of his country.

The Russian 58th Army is the one rolling through South Ossetia and Gori. They have been given the lovely knickname, “The Butchers of Grozny”.
Perhaps I could get more worked up about this if the city of Gori wasn't STILL promoting Stalin worship, with a huge statue of him and his old home as a key tourist attraction.
Honestly, I feel awful about innocent civilians caught in the middle of all this, but I suspect Putin and Saakashvili are pretty much two peas in a pod.

The B2’s should be taking out the Russian convoys, and Special Forces should be on the ground harrassing troops and vital items, already if they aren’t already, if these allegations are true.
I know we aren’t in a position for a full frontal war with Russia, but that doesn’t mean we sit by and do nothing if this is going on.
Well, yes, of course, a statue always merits looting, pillaging, burning and raping. /sarc
Russian has historically not been a great respecter of the rights of conquered people. And at this point that’s essentially what the Georgians in occupied territory are.
The Russians will either be made to suffer for this aggression or this attack will be just a prelude for greater atrocities to come.
Time to ramp up for Cold War II.
Dang it. Saakashvili is not a communist for goodness sake. In Russia they still have Lenin/Communist era statues at every corner. Gori has a Stalin museum and statue for historic/tourists reason. No real Georgian is swooning for Stalin, who after all was the leading Bolshevik that had Free Georgia annexed by the Bolshevik armies in 1921.
I agree, that looks like a re-enactor photo. Check out the Stg-45 (Sturmgewehr) - though that might actually be a non-functional copy of the granddaddy of all assault rifles.
They raped Romania women as well. My grand mother pretended to have a horrible disease to keep the Russians from raping her. She marked up her face with boils and lesions and pretended to be be sickly.

Have you ever read any of the Gulag Archipellago? There has never been a time when the Russians have not operated death camps. It would be extraordinary to believe that they have not enslaved Georgians.
I know, but when you think of how we put our guys through hell for even bogus accusations of abuse of civilians, it's infuriating -- especially when there are so many people out there that are willing to buy excuses for these excuses for these monsters -- such as a damn statue or a wild exaggeration of atrocities by Georgia in SO.
And my guess is that almost all of those taken to the camps will never be seen again. This is part of the terror tactic.
Note that a lot of our guys who were “liberated” by the Red Army from Nazi POW camps in WWII have still not come home.
The same is true of Korean War POWs.
The same is true of aerial recon operators who are known to have survived being shot down during the Cold War.
The same is true of Viet Nam POWs.
We’re just not supposed to talk about them because it could harm international relations.
We didn’t appease Nazi Germany, at least that I can remember from reading about WWII. We went in and kicked their collective butts.
