Obama Played by Chicago Rules
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 20, 2008 | David Freddoso

Posted on 08/20/2008 6:55:59 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Democrats don't like it when you say that Barack Obama won his first election in 1996 by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot on technicalities.

By clearing out the incumbent and the others in his first Democratic primary for state Senate, Mr. Obama did something that was neither illegal nor even uncommon. But Mr. Obama claims to represent something different from old-style politics -- especially old-style Chicago politics. And the senator is embarrassed enough by what he did that he misrepresents it in the prologue of his political memoir, "The Audacity of Hope."

...

In real life, it did not matter what Mr. Obama said on the stump or whether South Side voters were impressed. What mattered was that, beginning on Jan. 2, 1996, his campaigners began challenging thousands of petition signatures the other candidates in the race had submitted in order to appear on the ballot. Thus would Mr. Obama win his state Senate seat, months before a single vote was cast.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Mr. Obama's petition challengers reported to him nightly on their progress as they disqualified his opponents' signatures on various technical grounds -- all legitimate from the perspective of law. One local newspaper, Chicago Weekend, reported that "[s]ome of the problems include printing registered voters name [sic] instead of writing, a female voter got married after she registered to vote and signed her maiden name, registered voters signed the petitions but don't live in the 13th district."

What is becoming increasingly clear is that Obama is a...flake.

This is what happens when there are rules and they’re not followed: some will take advantage of the letter of the law over its spirit, whether for good or ill. I don’t like the guy and think he’s a nancy-boy with no gut for leadership, but this criticism dilutes real criticisms, of which there are many. You may not like the tactic, but as the writer says, it’s perfectly legitimate.

Democrats don't like it when you say that Barack Obama won his first election in 1996 by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot on technicalities.

Why? This is actually a brilliant strategy.

It was obvious from the get go to anyone with a few neurons firing and any amount of common sense and paying attention that this guy is a schlub.

I said this MONTHS ago and I stick by it, Fauxbama will be insanely lucky if he gets 40% of the vote on election day, and frankly he may wind up making McGovern look good.

Has anyone read the Freddoso book?
I saw an interview with him and he seemed really sincere.
Stated the book wasnt meant to be political, he just wanted to know more about BHO. Sounds like the libs would have a much more difficult time smearing him or the book.

So he won by throwing all his opponents off the ballot?

I guess that's what Hussein means when he says, "McCain doesn't know what he's up against"!!!

Corruptocrats are masters of using taxpayer money to strengthen their personal power and fatten their own pockets and those of their family members and cronies. Pork barrel, self-interest “grants” funnel billions of taxpayer dollars to these crooks. Obama would move the Chicago Machine to Washington.

I think what this article is telling us, however, is that it doesn’t matter what percentage of the vote Obama gets: he may lose the vote, but he’s ruthless politically and he’ll do whatever is necessary to “win” the election.

I hope McCain has a good team already trying to figure out what approach Obama is going to take when he realizes he’s losing the vote. Obama has no intention of not getting to the White House, whether he’s elected or not.

I guess this is Hussein's plan for counting the absentee ballots of our military men and women. (Geee,,,democrats would never do that, would they? /s)

Democrats are always 'for the troops'--right up until the time comes to count their ballots.

Obama Played by Chicago Rules [Freddoso]

He still is playing by Chicago rules.

Wonder whose idea it was to dye his hair at the temples to make him appear older and wiser?

While that is a potent word to throw around to mock another: “flake” — you should know it has a more potent backspin. I would not use it. It is similar to the old “latent” smear word.

Just like Bubba brought the Arkansas machine in.

Fauxbama has ZERO chance at the white house... Chicago is chicago, the chicago machine handed him the Senate seat by driving out Ryan.. that won’t be happening at the national level.

The slug has left the cacoon of Chicago... and he didn’t emerge a butterfly as the MSM and his backers portrayed, turned out he was just another moth, fluttering around the bright light, but completely burned when he got close.

I'm sure people have renamed his book, The Audacity of Hype.

It reminds me of when the MANBEARPIG - Gore sent a cadre of lawyers into every county in FL to try and disqualify the votes from our military overseas - on a series of mundane technicalities.

To his deathbed this pompous ass will be remembered as the festering turd who was so desperate to be President he tried to disqualify the votes of men and women fighting for our freedom overseas on frivolous technicalities...

This fraud is just another ego maniac who will do anything to win, as his career in Chicago clearly illustrates.

Obama is a product of the Daley machine. He has never really been opposed or tested. That is why he appears so thin-skinned and lost when McCain plays normal Presidential politics.

Jim Malone, campaign consultant:

“You wanna get Obama? Here’s how you get him. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That’s the Chicago way! And that’s how you get Obama!”
