The presumptive Democratic candidate aspires to end U.S. foreign policy unilateralism: Democrat Barack Obama represents a new type of leader who hopes to use multilateralism, dialogue and the cooperation on the international scene, his campaign advisors said today.
The new element that Obama brings in working with the rest of the world is that he will listen and will work with our allies, and thus move away from the unilateralism that has been the mark of the government of Republican President George W. Bush, declared Greg Craig, one of Obamas main foreign policy advisers, at a press conference. Craig described Obama as a pragmatist and not an ideological candidate, therefore, he will look for ways to solve issues on the basis of the facts and direct dialogue. Craig reiterated that Obama favors fortifying and creating ultilateral institutions and that he would be much more cautious in the use of the force.
Ambassador Wendy Sherman, another Obama adviser on foreign policy, affirmed that, He favors direct negotiation the United States would have to be able to sit down with a leader with who we have disagreements.
Craig said that Obama is preparing to establish a dialogue with (Hugo) Chávez and the Cubans.
Craig, when asked why Obama voted in favor of the border wall with Mexico, responded that it was a reluctant vote.
You have to look at a persons entire record to see how they want to unite people. Therefore, regarding the wall, Craig said that Obama will reduce funding for the border fence and look for a way to cooperate with Mexico to create a safer border.
But, Craig said, if there isnt any other way to reduce (illegal) immigration, that wall will have to be erected, although he emphasized that all alternatives would be looked at first.
On the war on drugs, Craig said that Obama would promote a strategy based on cooperation at binational and multilateral levels within the entire region, and that we need to elaborate a common strategy on common ground.
We have failed to do this in the last decade, he commented.
Regarding international trade, Ambassador Sherman said that Democrats are, in favor of commerce, but just commerce just.
She said that the global economy, has not benefited all,, and that in fact some argue that the breach between rich and poor has been widened. Obama wants the boats to rise for all, not just some.
he will listen and will work with our allies, and thus move away from the unilateralism
Where’s the change?
Oh, and I hardly think Chavez and Castro qualify as allies.
Thanks for the translation.
God help our poor country if this Marxist becomes POTUS.
All he has are words. And 99% of them are empty.
Neville Obama. Is he one of the Neville brothers????
IMHO, getting multiple UN resolutions, all of which were ignored, before we invaded Iraq hardly qualifies as unilateralism.
Can anybody here cite an instance where the Bush administration acted unilaterally? I can’t think of any.
Can anybody here cite an instance where the Bush administration acted unilaterally?
No.
P.S. I like your tag line!
What is disturbing to me is that this is what ran in Mexico, but I couldn’t find this information anywhere in English in a U.S. publication. There are several news hooks here.
Can you forward it to Rush? If you cannot....I will....
Be my guest. Include the link so he will know it is not pure invention. Thank you. And let me know if he uses it. I am unable to listen to him today. Thanks.
No wonder he pulled his ads from Florida. Cuban/Venezuelan ex-pats will go nuts over this.
There were stories about Beelzeflubba that first surfaced in the British press before anyone here would print them, so this could be true, given the Anointed One’s political proclivities..
Barack you douche Bag! Chevez Nationalizes our oil interests Venezuela and you want to set down and THANK HIM!
He is without a doubt, a POS..
Wow!
Nice catch!
bump
I browse the google news for Mexico every day and find some real gems. Like mayors of Texas border cities and a state senator from El Paso going to Mexico to receive awards from the government there for blocking construction of the border fence.
Thanks!
