Denver -- It was powerful, it was passionate -- and from inside the hall here, it was one killer speech.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton brought the house down with her address tonight at the Democratic National Convention, where it looked to be about a 9-plus on the Richter scale.

The insiders had warned that Clinton had to deliver bigtime tonight -- for her legacy, and for her future, as well as for Obama.

Deliver she did. Republicans, of course, had their views -- that she delivered evidence that their guy, John McCain, is the only one ready to hit ground running at the White House. Here's some thoughts from critics and insiders:

*Phil Trounstine, Democratic strategist and Obama supporter: ''Sen. Clinton did everything she needed to do. She made it crystal clear to all of her supporters that it is their duty to fight on for her by supporting Barack Obama. If he becomes president, it will be in part because Hillary Clinton had the grace and strength to re-unite her party.''

*Ruth Sherman, author and communications consultant: ''I've never seen her this good, not even close. . . .

My opinion..Hillary’s speech was more for her than for Obama.

Hillary..Rock on Obama. I’ll win in 2012. :)

Bill with tears: “I love you, I love you”= Why did I hear Donna Summer singing “Don’t Leave Me This Way” in the background. She’ll dump him before the next election cycle.

Chelsea- Hillary hug: Fake

Michelle: My teeth are itching over this woman, but I will applaud her for her Tubman reference.

Biden: Darn..I wish I hadn’t got those Botox injections in my cheeks. I can’t quit smiling..

It was all me, me, me. And Mrs. Obama did not look happy at all.

I thought Thelma Houston sang Don’t Leave Me This Way—oh what does it matter, it was one of those hits we used to dance to in the disco’s.

I don’t hate all the Democrats. Harry Truman seems to be a good guy. :)

I never hated any of them in the past; I don't remember learning in school not to respect our presidents. Even in the liberal college I attended at the time, they had to keep it low key. It is hard to love my enemies. The best I can do is try not to repay in kind.

Her main point was - vote for Obama because he’s better than Mccain

And then let's talk about me. Me! Me! ME!

Amen to that, swiftly followed by gratitude that BHO is going down in flames.

Politically speaking, of course.

I said the best speech SHE ever gave - not the best speech ever.

I don’t think much of her oratorical skills - so the bar isn’t set all that high.

You are correct. It was Thelma not Donna.

But the song still rattles around in my head. :)

Heh. Just posting that you don’t think she mentioned Obama enough and the speech was mostly about her, which happens to be true, gets you banned from the leftie sites I’ve visited tonight. Free speech? Not so much.

I SAID THE DEMOCRATS ARE UNITED, DAMMIT!!!

I will. It’s late so I can’t tonight. But I will explain why I use Black Bart. Quid Pro Quo.

"Could they be any more nakedly partisan?"

It's a freakin' national political party convention!

The speech was as uninspiring and phony as all of Hillary’s other speeches. Of course the MSM thinks it was a Grand Slam.

Susan basically said that the Hilldabeast gave such a great speech that, instead of inspiring her followers to support Obama it will inspire her followers to more bitterness as she demonstrated that she should be the nominee, not BHO.

Susan may be right, and I think that was exactly the effect Hilldabeast was after.

She made a campaign speech for HRC, not Obama.

I agree. And when somebody finally looks carefully at what she said, they will find not-so-subtle swipes at the gaffes the Obamas have made recently. One that comes to mind is "I am proud of my country." When she said it it was in the context of what she had to offer, not Mr. or Mrs. Obama.

And so far, pretty boring. I just hate that “Isn’t She Lovely” is a ruined song for me. Much like “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow”.

Who is Hillary’s speechwriter(s)? Anyone we know? She’s not the type to write them herself, to have some peon do it for her.

I agree that the speech could be her best. Thank you for the clarification.

Interesting how she did not show 100% support for Obama.
