Gov. Sarah Palin: A Surprise Breath of Fresh Air
Boston Globe ^ | August 30, 2008 | Danielle Fish

Posted on 08/31/2008 5:50:10 AM PDT by Righting

Breath deep my friends, some real change just blew in.. Palin was a bold choice and she's getting a very warm reception across the country. Sadly, already the media has engaged slings and arrows. If it isn't the media's candidate, boy, they get ugly. Let's give this woman some credit before we tear her apart, shall we:

- she's worked at many levels of government and will bring a thorough understanding of what the Average Joe is suffering these days in terms of jobs and the economy. In fact she doesn't just understand it, she's practically living it. Child with disabilities, mother of 5, hard-working, blue collar husband, two working parents. Washington insiders are pretty insulated from the day to day - her's is a voice we need.

- she's a woman. Why not have the other half of our country equally representive in our highest executive branch? The Democrats haven't cornered the market on making history.

- above all else - she has executive experience. Even if in a shorter dose than some other VP contenders, she has held he title of 'the buck stops here." That's a claim that neither McCain, Obama, or Biden can make.

That's a candidate I'll take "in a heartbeat" any day!

So, welcome Gov. Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket!

^5 to the Boston Globe for publishing this piece...

Is it possible that the Boston Globe has seen the light... Knows that Change and Together We Can slogans are meaningless tripe when compared to people with substance like Sarah Palin and John McCain.

I'm rooting for and voting for McCain/Palin all the way.

To be honest, the first time I heard of her was shortly after Bush issued the Executive Order to open the OCS to drilling again. Gov. Palin was one of the first to open up its shores to drilling. Since I knew nothing about this Republican governor, I did a little digging to find out more about her. (The fact that I think she's a knockout doesn't make my interest wane, either!) All I remember is thinking: “Wow! A real-life Republican who is in office and still retains the old GOP values. How cool would it be for McCain to give her the nod!”

I'm just tickled to death by her nomination and I wish them all the luck in the world!

McCain has had executive experience. He has been a commander in the Navy.

I never thought I'd see the conservatives so jazzed about this ticket, but the selection of Palin has done exactly that.

She's a great choice and has my vote wholeheartedly.

I think she'd be a lot of fun to hunt with.

Love that this came from the Boston Globe.

“sadly, the media has already engaged slings and arrows...”

it isn’t really sad...it’s expected that the house organ of the democrat party should attempt to destroy a viable candidate by defamation, calumny, slander and whatever else while hiding behind the first amendment. (subversive, irresponsible cusses that they are.)

IMHO

I'm amazed how many seem to forget this about McCain.

The rats are in total panic this weekend. McCain stole their thunder and effectively "castrated" Obama's post convention bump with the timing of his announcement of Palin. Alienated democrat constituencies now see Palin as justification to cross over and vote Republican. Conservatives are now consolidating in support of McCain and his campaign coffers have swollen over over 7 Million in donations since the announcement.

Smells like CHAOS for the DNC...

"McCain has had executive experience. He has been a commander in the Navy."

Still a bit of a "hot-house" experience. Being an "executive" when your subordinates have no choice but to follow your orders is a bit easier than the case where all you can do is "persuade and convince". Palin's expereince if far more relevant to the office of President than McCain's. Of course, McCain's is far better than ANY Democrat that has run for the office in the recent past.

Quite right! Palin being an amateur (in the very best sense)will be a true agent of change. Does anyone actually believe that two liberal lawyers will be instruments of change? Palin and McCain are the maverick types who will seek practical workable solutions. Obama and Biden are all about making sure that public policy adhers to some puerile notion of doctrinal purity. I can guarantee you that Palin would never go the the teacher’s unions or the trial lawyers to secure their imprimatur before coming to solutions to problems. Obama is the same old rehashed liberalism that’s been around for at least a half a century. He and Biden must have victims, the more the better. Their basic argument is that people have no control over their own destiny. To them, ambition, drive, resourcefulness, self-control, self-denial, proportion, and measure have nothing to do with success. They’ll take care of you no matter what. That’s the bottom line. Barring true catastrophes there’s not a great deal Washington or government can do for you. They should help when genuine need is required. But, in the main, we are the architects of our own destiny. Obama would have you believe that we’re not investing enough money in our kids. Nonsense! Look at the schools in D.C., Chicago and other large cities. Despite the largest per capita expenditures in history they’re abysmal failures. Do you think Obama and Biden would send their children to a public school? My guess is no.
