A spectre is haunting the liberal elites of New York and Washington--the spectre of a young, attractive, unapologetic conservatism, rising out of the American countryside, free of the taint (fair or unfair) of the Bush administration and the recent Republican Congress, able to invigorate a McCain administration and to govern beyond it.
That spectre has a name--Sarah Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska chosen by John McCain on Friday to be his running mate. There she is: a working woman who's a proud wife and mother; a traditionalist in important matters who's broken through all kinds of barriers; a reformer who's a Republican; a challenger of a corrupt good-old-boy establishment who's a conservative; a successful woman whose life is unapologetically grounded in religious belief; a lady who's a leader.
So what we will see in the next days and weeks--what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination--is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.

Not a problem.... Glad to help....
Sarah may not know it yet. But the Republican party is now her party. and it will be for the next 4 to 16 years. She is setting off a “JFK” kind of excitement. Something that Hillary could not do. Something that Obama can only do in his dreams.
Like JFK and Reagan, she has that glow to her.
All I've seen so far is a young and beautiful Princess Palin saying "Help us Obi-John - you're our only Hope!"
And she even married Han Solo!
yes she is the next reagan
Kind of makes our Smokey Mountain black bears look like Toto. Her dad brought that down, but the Giant King Crab on the coffee table is her’s.
Her Dad shot that 3 years ago. She kids her Mom she put it there so it can protect her. But her Mom says she knows better; Sarah doesn’t need any protection!
As they say here in the South... " She's got that thang"
It's that indefinable quality which jumps out at you and says, "this person is the real deal".. and she is.
I actually think that is part of McCain’s strategy for the present. She’s not only overshadowing McCain, but Biden, Obama, and everything else...she’s taken over the news cycle and will continue to do so for awhile until the Dems realize they can’t drive her from the race (she actually hasn’t taken over it...the news is the one doing the hyping be it positive or negative.) If polls go up because of her they’ll back off a bit, realizing they’re actually aiding her and McCain. Figure that before this, McCain to Obama coverage on MSM was 1/10. Not now, and any coverage, negative or positive is better than no attention, because negative attention energizes the base.
I read some of the Hillary forums last night. Many want McCain/Palin to win so that Hillary will get her chance in '12. They figure if they vote for Obama, Hill won't get a chance again until '16, when she'll be viewed as too old.
What you say may come to pass in the ‘big city’, but ‘small town USA’ sees right thru the demonization programs of the left and MSM.
Very astute observation! I absolutely agree.
Yes...the MSM will try to blind side her, won’t they! Uhh, oh wait, she’s a graduate in journalism. Wonder if she’s heard about their tricks somewhere...in a ‘been there, done that, got the T-shirt’ kinda way?
where in Gov. Palin’s past have you spotted a RINO? She’s there to take the RINO outta McCain!
Remember...she’s the first journalist to reach this lofty elevation of the species! There’re gonna be lotsa Freudian slips to help her. And a Secret Ballot guarantees the ability of some journalists to ‘make the right choice’ at the polls as well!
Amen and Hallelujah - thanks for posting.
