How Palin is Playing in the Supermarket Aisles [more disgusting attacks]
ABC ^ | Sept. 2, 08 | Rick Klein

Posted on 09/02/2008 4:29:31 PM PDT by cdchik123

Rick Klein, from ABC’s The Note, reports: Let’s say you don’t read The New York Times or The Washington Post (or The Note, for that matter). Let’s say you don’t follow the big political blogs and you’re not obsessed with every turn of the screw of this fascinating presidential race.

Let’s say, instead, like millions ofworking-class Americans, you get your “news” on the political race from the supermarket aisle. Let’s say you’re -- I don’t know, a “hockey mom” -- and you’re intrigued by this Sarah Palin person you’ve been hearing so much about since Friday.

So you’re shopping this week -- and what do you see on the cover of US Weekly? That esteemed journalistic institution is taking it right to John McCain’s running mate -- with a hard-hitting piece that details the “scandal” involving her daughter’s pregnancy.

“BABIES, LIES & SCANDAL,” screams the headline on the cover, with a picture of a smiling Palin holding her fifth child, 4-month-old Trig.

Inside is a collection of Palin lowlights -- from her daughter’s now well-known pregnancy; to Internet rumors that the governor pretended to be pregnant to cover for her daughter; to “troopergate”; to her onetime support for the “bridge to nowhere”; to a radio appearance where she giggled while shock jocks called a political rival a “bitch” and a “cancer.”

-snip-

But this, to me, is the clearest evidence yet that the McCain-Palin campaign is losing the battle over Palin’s image. US Weekly readers are the voters her selection was designed to attract. There’s not much to like in this early take -- and not much to indicate that the next round will be much better.

It was the supermarket tabloids that broke the Edwards' Love Child Story.

Looks to me that they are willing to attack anyone for anything as long as it helps them sell copies.

No, this is just of a piece with the MSM’s crusade against McCain and now Palin.

Did you note the obvious elitism here? If you’re elite (like me!) we got you covered with the Slimes and the WaPo. And if you’re stupid and shallow (like mere working stiff supermarket shoppers!) then we’ll reach you there, too.

I don’t think PUS Magazine will make much difference. The Democrats *already* have a lock on the stupid and shallow voters that would read it for information. (The few that actually *vote*, anyway.)

The National Enquirer is on it, too:

http://www.nationalenquirer.com/sarah_palin_at_war_with_her_daughter_over_pregnancy_wedding/celebrity/65370

SARAH PALIN AT WAR WITH DAUGHTER OVER PREGNANCY & WEDDING

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue.

Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy.

But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed coverup.

The ultra-conservative governor’s announcement about her daughter’s pregnancy came hours after The ENQUIRER informed her representatives and family members of Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol’s child, that we were aware of the pregnancy and were going to break the news.

In a preemptive strike Palin released the news, creating political shockwaves.

The ENQUIRER has also learned that Palin’s family is embroiled in a vicious war that is now exposing her darkest secrets, threatening to destroy her political career.

Palin’s ongoing war with her ex brother-in-law Mike Wooten, a state trooper, has caused multiple sources to come forward with shocking allegations about the governor.

Details of those allegations, the family feud, and Palin’s attempt to cover up her teen daughter’s pregnancy are in the new issue of The ENQUIRER.

Now, let’s ask him just one thing: when exactly did HE know about John Edward’s affair??? (and failed to ‘report’ it)

Sorry, but that was well after he dropped out of the race.

They ( the Edwards campaign ) had bought the mistress a three million dollar mansion down in Santa Barbara, and were giving her a 15,000 dollar a month "allowance". They were flying her all over the damned country, as well as the Carribean, in a private lear jet. The Enquirer claimed that there was a paper trail several miles long.

The way the Dems are in full attack mode, their internal polling numbers must be simply devastating.

I’m in NY (land of the over-taxed and virtually surrounded by liberals). However, many of my lib-leaning coworkers are now openly saying that they’re paying attention to Palin and McCain. In fact, the Hillary supporters are openly switching sides and are fed up with the Dems’ response/attack.

Folks, this is in New York!!

McCain hit a home run.

This story will boost the sales of Us Magazine and the National Enquirer and that is the only reason why both outfits are leading with this story.

And yes, they would do the very same thing if a Biden or Obama daughter were in the same situation.

The Enquirer is owned by a friend of the Clintons. He bought the tabloid so that he could run hit pieces on Hillary's opponents while keeping Hill and Bill out.

OTOH, what I've seen from People Magazine was very fair, so far.

Sarah Palin will give her speech at the RNC tomorrow. It will be very heavily watched, and it's likely that she will be extremely impressive to anyone who isn't a hardcore lefty.

McCain was tortured in the Hanoi Hilton for 6 years, so I think he can take 60 days of this crap. He's a really feisty campaigner, but he's been more or less unopposed for 20 years in Arizona so you don't see it so much.

Sarah Palin is also tough as nails, so I don't see her backing away from a fight either.

Meanwhile, the left has deranged itself that if they're just a little more shrill and over-the-top they can get McCain to dump Palin or they can get Palin to drop out. It isn't going to happen.

Plus, all this is REALLY sucking the oxygen out of the Obama campaign. Obama gave "the speech of the century" last week and it seems like 50 million years ago.

I know women who read this garbage and they’re all brainless, zero IQ liberals, not potential McCain/Palin voters.

“While the more profitable single copies (of Us Weekly) in the past had accounted for more than half of the magazine’s sales, it now accounts for less than half.

“Newsstand sales had accounted for 50 to 55 percent in the past. It’s now 54 percent subscription and 46 percent single copy,” Rose conceded.

I agree with the guy who wrote on FR that if McCain were to throw her under the bus, he would not vote for McCain if he dug Ronald Reagan up and somehow managed to breathe life into him and name him his VP pick.

The MSM does NOT like you, John McCain. Remember that.

Take heart folks. The campaign knew this was coming when they offered Gov. Palin the job. I think the libs are falling right into the trap that was set for them. The “baby trading” stuff might even be a great big bonus.

What is the trap? Well I really don’t have a clue. But I cannot imagine that a campaign run this well up to this point was unaware of what the disgraceful obots, MSM and tabloids would do with a teen pregnancy.

Have faith that they planned for this and will shove it in their collective faces shortly and pray a lot too.

I dont really care or get concerned about stuff running in the tabloids. They live for scandal, it’s their bread and butter.

I think most people who read them are reading them to be titilated, and they know they’re getting the exaggerated version.

Also, I think a big part of the success of tabloids is that they take the piss out of celebrities, printing pictures of them without make-up and airing all the dirty laundry.

So ... dont sweat the Tabs.
