It is a very slippery slope. denial of the facts is exactly what they’re hoping you’ll do.

This is the same country that has tens of thousands of snoop cameras on London streets, so why not press the children into becoming snitch babies for Mother Earth.

Hitler’s Children

Hitler and the SS was my first thought, too.

Ok, there's cow tipping but why would anyone mind fly tipping? One would think making them go SPLAT! would be more offensive but then I'm not British.

Encouraging people to report actual, genuine crimes like fly-tipping, graffiti and letting your dog dump all over the pavement is a slippery slope? I call it encouraging good citizenship.
When they start encouraging kids to report parents or neighbours for expressing ‘unorthodox’ opinions I’ll start worrying.
The police don’t have time to go and investigate this kind of thing, so they have to rely on citizens who would rather live in a clean neighbourhood, what is wrong with that? Comparing this to Stasi/Gestapo tactics is completely ridiculous. It’s like equivilating locking up burglars in prison to locking up political prisoners in a gulag. Some people here really need to get a grip. There are plenty of things going on in Britain that are offensive to our civil liberties, but frankly, this isn’t one of them. And by making a big deal about this, you are undermining the credibility of the arguments against genuine threats to legitimate freedoms and rights...

The nazis enlisted children to turn in their parents and neighbors if they were Jewish or help Jews.

“Hitler’s Children”

“Give me a break. Comments like that are completely ridiculous.”

Nope, sorry, no break for you. You think kids narking on their parents over silly little girly bullshit laws is fine then I pity you and any community in which the likes of you are considered reasonable. The fact that you can't see a difference between a neighbor spotting some (small) selfishness by someone and reporting it (as opposed to, say confronting the 'evil doer') and a child fingering mom and dad and getting a reward-—the fact that you're blind to the evil implications of this as well-—is absolutely disgusting.

Children were enlisted (by law) to report JEWS swimming in public pools, and parents for SMOKING in 1936 - it was “no big deal” and “good citizenship” back then too.

You, my friend, have no idea of what you are allowing to happen around you.

I’m no enviro-MENTALIST, but on the other hand, I do see the merits of living in a place were I don’t have to constantly watch where I’m putting my feet to avoid putting my feet in dog s**t, or put up with offensive graffiti or let people dump rubbish in my local park because they can’t be arsed to take it to the municipal tip. Maybe you don’t. Maybe you see encouraging citizens to report and gather evidence of justifiably illegal activity as an infringement of your god-given right to crap all over your own neighbourhood?

From ParentalRights.org:

In the early 1980s, a landmark parental rights case reached the Washington State Supreme Court. The case involved 13-year-old Sheila Marie Sumey, whose parents were alarmed when they found evidence of their daughter’s participation in illegal drug activity and escalating sexual involvement. Their response was to act immediately to cut off the negative influences in their daughter’s life by grounding her.

But when Sheila went to her school counselors complaining about her parent’s actions, she was advised that she could be liberated from her parents because there was “conflict between parent and child.” Listening to the advice she had received, Sheila notified Child Protective Services (CPS) about her situation. She was subsequently removed from her home and placed in foster care.

Her parents, desperate to get their daughter back, challenged the actions of the social workers in court. They lost. Even though the judge found that Sheila’s parents had enforced reasonable rules in a proper manner, the state law nevertheless gave CPS the authority to split apart the Sumey family and take Sheila away.

A thirteen-year-old boy in Washington State was removed from his parents after he complained to school counselors that his parents took him to church too often. His school counselors had encouraged him to call Child Protective Services with his complaint, which led to his subsequent removal and placement in foster care. It was only after the parents agreed to a judge’s requirement of less-frequent church attendance that they were able to recover their son.

A West Virginia mother was shocked when a local circuit judge and a family court judge ordered her to share custody of her four-year-old daughter with two of the girl’s babysitters. Referring to the sitters as “psychological co-parents,” the justices first awarded full custody to them, only permitting the mother to visit her daughter four times a week at McDonalds. Eventually she was granted primary custody, but forced to continue to share her daughter with the sitters.

When her case finally reached the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in October 2007, the beleaguered mother was relieved to finally be granted full custody of her daughter.

In their October 25 opinion Supreme Court justices wrote that they were “deeply troubled by the utter disregard” for the mother’s rights. One justice referred to the mother’s right as the “paramount right in the world.”

Chief Justice Robin Davis summed up the case in one simple question.”Why does a natural parent have to prove fitness when she has never been found unfit?” he asked.

I would think that the very brainy Brits could find a better way to encourage its citizens to be clean than by enlisting their children as paid mini-gestapo.

Exactly!

That same "Drip, Drip, Drip" of liberaliam, and "creeping dogoodism" in the US is being masked by the obvious radical moonbats that grab all the attention. Every little enviro law, Every restriction, fee, use limit, degrades your civil liberties.

You want to know why George W. Bush is so "universially hated"??

Drip, Drip, Drip....

Here

The youngsters are among almost 5,000 residents who in some cases are being offered £500 rewards if they provide evidence of minor infractions.

If you were a child with newly indoctrinated rights of power over others, no one will be left unscathed, that new ipod you've been itching for will be at hand. 'Let's see, mum doesn't sort her trash bin correctly, score.'

The question should be - where does it say they aren't encouraged to report on their parents

Matthew Sinclair, of the TaxPayers' Alliance, described the recruitment of children as "downright sinister".

He said: "We are deeply troubled by these developments – they are straight out of the Stasi copybook. There is a combination of ever-stricter rules and ever more Draconian attempts to control people.

Thank You for people like Matthew Sinclair.

Remember when the Nazis encouraged people to report Jews in hiding? And those hiding them?

A dear woman--a Dutch physician--once told me that, when she was a child, as the Nazis were parading Jewish captives through the streets of the Netherlands, she saw a woman snatch a little boy into the watching crowd and, thereby, save him.

"But that was very dangerous to do," the physician told me, "Because, if the Nazis knew that you had done that, they would do the same thing to you that they were doing to the Jews."

There have always been people of great courage and goodness. There always will be. Such virtues are more basic to human nature than is evil--and I say this with full awareness of the unlimited capacity for depravity in human nature.

The only moonbats in this equation are people like you who are comparing laws against fly-tipping and graffiti to laws against jews swimming in pools and espousing views contrary to government orthodoxy in Nazi Germany.
How do you expect people to take genuine complaints against infringements of civil liberties seriously when whackos like you and just about everyone else in this thread are comparing enforcing laws against justifiably illegal activities with oppression in a totalitarian state?
