Republican Recycling
denverpost.com ^ | September 6, 2008 | David Harsanyi

This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.

“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”

I’m not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. But the Republicans are obviously questioning someone’s patriotism here.

When I worked with a White House Advance Team during the Bush 92' election, we got donations from local businesses for flags, many of which as large as 5x8'. All were taken by someone after the event. I got to keep some large US and Louisiana flags.

I also got a cool gold tie clip from President Bush.

I wish I had a direct conduit to them, but I am a meer peon in a sea of peons.

Year or so ago I worked for a Home Supply Center (’H’ar’D’ not to say the company’s name here)and the store had United States flags left after the 4th of July. Store management was just getting ready to throw 60 plus in the dumpster.

I asked if I could have them and recycle them. His deer in the headlights look was great. I did get them after several minutes after he recoved.

Exactly...You would think that they would give them out sensing that people would want them, if for no other reason than to indicate “I was there” at such an historical event (like keeping a concert ticket stub—of course, this is still demeaning to the Flag). The fact that these flags were cast-offs, that they thought nothing of bringing them to the next event (can you picture the government waste if these guys get in) is indicative of their lack of stewardship with regard to resources (thus their lack of vision of tomorrow) and of their understanding of the power of symbols.

Not sure if that picture at the top is an actual Photo of the flags that were to be thrown away, but hey are unused if you ask me. Bad enough to throw away perfectly good used flags, worst that they were new. They clowns are going to save our economy???

"He said boyscouts retrieved them."

May god bless the BSA!!!

We are blessed by the stupidity of our political opponents, time after time. If not for the drive by media, McCain/Palin would be up 20% in the polls.

Carl Cameron, who is reporting from this event, just reported on the flags. He said boyscouts retrieved them.

same boy scouts who had their bus sandbagged and rocked by protesters at RNC?

“Campaign Carl” is on site and all over this story....fingers crossed they’ll televise this during today’s Colorado Springs stop.

Yes! Question their patriotism! Every day and in every way that you can!

Take it from me, a true ‘Conserve-’ative who doesn’t waste a thing. :)
