Smyrna’s Maryline Blackburn won the 1984 Miss Alaska beauty pageant. The second runner-up? Sarah Palin, nee Heath – the GOP’s vice-presidential nominee.
“My first impression was, ‘Oh my god, she’s gorgeous, she’ll probably be the one who wins,” Blackburn, a recording artist, recalled Monday afternoon.
Second impression?
“She had this look about her, this look in her eyes that tells you she’s calculating, figuring out ‘How am I going to win this competition,’ ” Blackburn said. “There was a determination there.”
And that became evident when she tripped you during the evening gown competition?
“No,” Blackburn laughed. “Sarah would never do anything like that. In pageants, there’s pettiness and the little claws come out. But if Sarah was anything like that, she hid it very well.”
Instead, the flute player from small town Wasilla, who was Miss Congeniality in the pageant, wrote Blackburn a lovely note on the back of a group photo at pageant’s end: “I do love you. You’re more admired than even you know. And please keep God Number One. He’s got great things for you, baby. Love, Sarah Heath.”

She is quite nice lady as an Obama supporter. She doesn’t like Sarah’s speech as much as we do, but she doesn’t say anything that might create controversy either.

WoW, everyday, I learn something more about this woman that I love...gracious, is the word that comes to my mind.
So when do the DUmmies start demanding to see the note, and when then will they say that the note was obviously forged.
I don't think it's bad at all. In one fell swoop, this story shows that Sarah Palin is (a) not a cheater, (b) competitive, (c) gracious in defeat, and (d) someone who a black women, being an Obama supporter, came to her defense and effectively squelched the pageant rumors.
Sarah Palin probably rose a few more notches today, if that is even possible. :)
Once more, the smearmeisters look like fools. They are taking nice people who aren’t even part of the campaign and dragging them through the mud.

Indeed. Given the flak she’s about to receive, she may well vote a straight Republican ticket before all is said and done. Well, probably not, but she has shown more class that 95% of the “top tier” pundits in America.
